Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Thad Chase!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, David Smalls!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Ben Watson and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smalls throws a push kick but Chase slaps the foot to one side.
Smalls throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Chase moves into the clinch.
Smalls with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Chase managing to block the knees to the body from Smalls.

Smalls has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Chase regains guard immediately.
Smalls content to stall in guard here.

Chase looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chase being controlled here, momentarily.
Chase might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Chase looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Smalls has picked Chase up and slammed him! Chase can't keep hold of the triangle and Smalls manages to pass to side control!

Smalls is trying to get an arm triangle but Chase is defending well.
Smalls advances to full mount.
Chase is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Smalls has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Chase's face.
Smalls controlling his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smalls fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Smalls sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Smalls's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Chase tries to hold on but Smalls pushes him away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smalls looking to control and managing it successfully.
Chase could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Smalls throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Chase has his hands clasped together but Smalls breaks the hold and Chase is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Smalls!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). David Smalls!
David Smalls was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
