PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dexter Cooke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Gordon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Daniel Gordon was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dexter Cooke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Daniel Gordon!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Francis DeMontford and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gordon looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Cooke makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Gordon shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Cooke is trying to defend but Gordon finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Cooke is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cooke is working hard here to advance position.
Cooke is trying to maintain the position but Gordon is very close to passing his half guard.
Cooke trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!

Cooke is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Gordon tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Cooke manages to get to full guard.

Cooke is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Gordon feints and as Cooke raises his hands in defense, Gordon changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cooke is pulling down on Gordon's head. It's preventing any offense from Gordon, at least for the moment.
Gordon wants to get up but he can't break Cooke's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Gordon shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Cooke manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Cooke is trying to control the position from the bottom.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Daniel Gordon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Gordon moves away from the strike by Cooke.
Gordon fails in his attempt to clinch.
Cooke fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gordon manages to avoid it.
Gordon is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
A big left from Cooke misses.

Gordon closes the distance and clinches.

Gordon gets control of Cooke's arms and successfully pulls guard. Gordon will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Cooke thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Cooke cracks Gordon with a solid left hand.

Gordon looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cooke is one step ahead there.
Cooke stops Gordon from standing up.
Cooke is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Cooke throws a big elbow that misses.
Cooke postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Gordon is working an open guard so Cooke takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
A head kick misses from Cooke.
Gordon moves in looking to clinch but Cooke pushes him off.
Cooke throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Gordon sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Cooke shoots and misses

and Gordon counters by moving into the clinch.

The referee is keeping an eye on Gordon - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Gordon has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Cooke regains guard immediately.
Gordon takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Cooke tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Daniel Gordon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
