Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Johny Vargas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aaron McGinnis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vargas kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Drake - Trophies. McGinnis has chosen Star.One - Original Badman Feat. Takura & Assassin as his entrance music. Aaron McGinnis will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The judges for this bout are George Francis, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGinnis lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Vargas drops his hands momentarily and McGinnis takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

McGinnis throws a hook but Vargas blocks it.
McGinnis looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
McGinnis scores with a kick to the body.
McGinnis lands a head kick. Vargas smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
McGinnis throws a nice inside leg kick.
McGinnis pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Vargas uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by McGinnis.
Vargas changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
McGinnis throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Vargas stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
McGinnis misses with a lunging right hand
and Vargas counters with a straight right hand.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McGinnis with a body punch. A glancing blow.

McGinnis scores with a head kick. Vargas tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
McGinnis fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
A looping hook to the body misses from McGinnis. Vargas does a little dance to reset his feet.
Vargas tries to counter by clinching up but McGinnis breaks away and moves out of range.
McGinnis connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
McGinnis turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Vargas stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from McGinnis.
McGinnis is looking to slow Vargas down with leg kicks.
McGinnis stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
We've been hearing reports that Vargas has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Vargas is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
McGinnis swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Vargas.
McGinnis feints and then cracks Vargas's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Vargas down.
Vargas walks into a stiff left hand from McGinnis.

Vargas seems to have got his legs back now.
A chopping leg kick lands by McGinnis.
McGinnis comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
McGinnis takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
McGinnis is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Vargas had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

McGinnis lands a jab to the nose.
McGinnis paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Aaron McGinnis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

McGinnis steps into range and cracks Vargas with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Vargas flops backwards and McGinnis dives into his guard looking to finish!
McGinnis won't allow Vargas to get back to his feet.
McGinnis pushing down on Vargas's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Vargas is trying to escape back to his feet but McGinnis uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Vargas half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
McGinnis throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

and Vargas counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
McGinnis is refusing to be controlled, as Vargas sits in half guard.
Vargas throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
McGinnis is controlling Vargas's position as best he can from this difficult position.
McGinnis has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Vargas is trying to control. McGinnis wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Vargas connects with a nice short shot to McGinnis's temple.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Vargas is trying to control the action in half guard but McGinnis is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

McGinnis fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Vargas.
McGinnis throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Vargas's head.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Aaron McGinnis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

The fighters circling - McGinnis throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Vargas swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McGinnis sees an opening and throws a straight punch right through Vargas's defenses. It connects perfectly with Vargas's jaw and knocks him out cold! Wow - that's a contender for knockout of the year - absolutely brutal!
