PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dexter Winters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nate Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dexter Winters!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nate Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Winters gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Diaz to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Diaz throwing strikes from guard but Winters blocks nicely.
Winters keeping full guard, as Diaz tries to pass.
Diaz postures up in Winters's guard and throws a big left but Winters blocks it.
Winters keeping moving, preventing Diaz from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Diaz wants to pass the guard but Winters is keeping the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Winters drives through with a takedown into Diaz's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Diaz pushes Winters off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Diaz bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Diaz is trying to get an arm triangle but Winters is defending well.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Diaz is putting a hurting on Winters here, landing some big shots from side control.
Winters is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Diaz's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Winters has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Diaz is working away from the top position though.

Winters is staying active underneath Diaz, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Winters keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Winters avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Diaz.
Winters might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Diaz thows a huge punch but Winters dodges it nicely.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Winters enables Diaz to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Winters manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Winters is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Diaz presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Winters escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Winters gets a clinch.

Winters successfully pulls guard.
Winters is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Diaz is controlling him.
Diaz looking to sit in guard and control but Winters gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Diaz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Diaz controls Winters momentarily but Winters frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Nate Diaz will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Diaz looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Diaz seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Winters is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
Winters wants to hold on but Diaz pushes him away.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Diaz goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Winters is on top in guard.
Diaz looking for a sweep. Not yet Diaz, not yet.

Winters gets to his feet - Diaz follows without any prompting.

Diaz gets caught napping as Winters dives in and scores a takedown. Diaz manages to retain guard.

Winters is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Winters passes into half guard.
It looks like Winters is going to stand back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Winters postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Diaz looks a forlorn figure.

Diaz keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Winters has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Diaz is forced to tap!
