PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jason Orton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Travis Turner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Orton comes to the cage accompanied by What the World Needs Is a Few More Rednecks by Charlie Daniels. Jason Orton had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jason Orton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Travis Turner!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Skip Squint and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Turner pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Orton throws a series of punches but Turner avoids them all with ease.
Orton looks to land a combination. Turner sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.


It looks like Travis Turner has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Turner looks to throw the jab but Orton is out of range.
Orton throws a right and a left that Turner avoids nicely.
Turner motions for Orton to come forward. Turner throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Turner on the wrong end of a nice jab.

Turner scores a takedown into full mount!

Turner wants to finish this one by submission but Orton is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Turner.
Turner landing shots from mount.
Orton is squirming around, avoiding Turner's attempts to control the action.

Turner unloads with some shots from mount but Orton bucks and avoids them well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Poor strikes thrown by Turner there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Turner working for a guillotine from mount but Orton is in no mood to give up.
Turner lands a nice shot to the head.
Turner has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Turner working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Turner goes for an armbar but Orton turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Orton.

Turner looking to hit a scissor sweep but Orton is one step ahead there.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Turner looking for subs off his back but Orton has passed one foot through into half guard.
Turner is trying to stand up here but Orton is controlling him well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Turner is looking to improve his position.
Turner moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Orton preventing the sweep.

Turner isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Orton stacks Turner on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Orton!
Turner is trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Orton moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Orton throws a right and a left that Turner avoids nicely.
Orton rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Turner moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Orton avoids the body shot from Turner.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Turner fails to land the takedown.
Turner takes one on the button.

Turner drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Turner trying to control but Orton is working from the bottom.
Orton avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Turner stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Orton swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Turner trying to move into half guard but instead Orton has managed to sweep!

Turner has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Orton can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Turner escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Orton gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Turner is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Turner is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Turner trying to mount his opponent but Orton defends it.
Orton on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Orton tries to get out of the position.
Turner thows a huge punch but Orton dodges it nicely.
Orton is in trouble now - Turner has advanced to mount!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Turner with shots to the head and body - Orton looks very uncomfortable down there.
Turner tries to control but Orton wriggling away.
Orton prevents Turner from taking his back.
Orton is trying to stand up.
Orton wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Turner.

Turner jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Orton is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Orton and Turner has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Orton is looking to regain half guard here but Turner keeps moving and retains side control.
Turner misses with the ground and pound.
Turner throws a strike aimed at the side of Orton's head but Orton avoids it well.
Turner misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Turner tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Travis Turner will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!


Turner closes the distance and clinches up with Orton, looking for a takedown. Turner pushes Orton against the cage but Orton circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Orton throws a series of punches but Turner avoids them all with ease.
A punch combination from Orton misses.

Turner scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Turner tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Turner has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Turner is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Orton knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Orton prevents Turner from moving into mount.

Turner wants to lay and pray for a moment but Orton keeps working.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Turner working the head and body with strikes.
Turner advances to full mount.

Turner is going olschool here, as he tries to force Orton to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Orton shrugs it off.
Orton knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Turner on the ground.
Turner misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Turner misses with a head shot.

And that's the end of the fight!
Travis Turner comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Turner has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
