PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jarrett Coffey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mostafa Amer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jarrett Coffey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mostafa Amer!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Emerson Jorge and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Coffey rushes Amer and presses him up against the cage.
Coffey avoiding damage.
Amer wants to break free but Coffey has control.
Amer is trying to force a seperation but Coffey has the dominant position.
Coffey looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Coffey could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Coffey.

Coffey breaks from the clinch.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Amer is defended easily by Coffey.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Amer tries to score a power double leg takedown but Coffey sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Amer somewhat.
Coffey changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Amer throws an overhand right that lands on Coffey's shoulder, as Coffey tries to avoid the shot.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Amer pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Coffey misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Amer.
Amer with the counter takedown but Coffey avoids it easily.

Amer pushes Coffey up against the cage in a clinch.

Coffey is trying to force a seperation but Amer has the dominant position.

Coffey escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Coffey counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Jarrett Coffey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mostafa Amer.
Amer lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Coffey can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Amer controls the pace.
Coffey wants to sweep but no luck.
Amer looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Coffey is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

It looks like Coffey is going to stand back up.
Coffey stops Amer from getting back to his feet.
Coffey wants to stand up but Amer has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Amer wants to control but Coffey is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Amer has hold of Coffey's hands but Coffey slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

so Coffey counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Coffey is looking to work some ground and pound but Amer has wrist control.
Coffey has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Amer can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Coffey controls the pace.
Coffey has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Amer is proving hard to escape from.

Coffey might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Coffey got a little sloppy there for a moment and Amer has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Coffey has managed to get both his arms back between Amer's legs - danger averted.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Amer shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Coffey defends it nicely.
Amer throws a shot from downtown. Coffey moves away and avoids it.
Amer shoots in but no luck this time.

Coffey shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Coffey was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Coffey just content to control the position.

Coffey is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Amer has escaped the position, nice work there.
Coffey is staying tight to Amer's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Coffey working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Coffey lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Coffey decides to stand up, so the ref orders Amer to his feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Amer shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Coffey defends it nicely.
Mostafa Amer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Coffey connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Amer tries for a takedown but Coffey manages to get underhooks.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Amer tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Coffey smiles and moves away.
Amer goes for a double leg but Coffey avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Coffey continues to drive forward.

and Coffey counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Amer!

Amer throws Coffey to one side and escapes!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Amer shoots in looking for a takedown but Coffey manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Amer's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Coffey has taken the fight to the clinch.
Amer is trying to break the clinch but Coffey has him pressed against the cage.
Coffey is pressed up against the cage. Amer has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Coffey down to the mat. Coffey avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Amer takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Coffey tries to counter with a takedown but Amer is quick to defend against it.

Coffey keeps control of Amer as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Amer avoids the head kick by Coffey.
And Amer tries to counter it with a takedown but Coffey pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Coffey displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Amer.
Coffey swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

and Coffey counters with a shoot takedown. Amer fights it but they end up in guard.

Amer has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Coffey is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Coffey's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Coffey is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Mostafa Amer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jarrett Coffey is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Amer tries to land knees in the clinch but Coffey avoids the damage to the body.

Jarrett Coffey showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Coffey has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
