PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kiya Xam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay J Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jay J Jackson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kiya Xam!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jay J Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Donald Grub and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Xam looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Jackson is looking to get back to is feet but Xam passes into side control.
Xam in side control lands a decent elbow.
Xam will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Jackson tries to hold on but Xam postures up.

Xam is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Jackson to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Jackson shrugs it off.

You get the feeling that Jackson really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Xam wants to control the pace but Jackson is squirming around nicely.
Xam is really struggling to control Jackson but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Xam sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jackson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Xam trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Jackson is looking to improve his position but Xam isn't that keen on the idea.

Xam wants to finish this one by submission but Jackson is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Xam.

Jackson is in all sorts of trouble here.
The referee warns Jackson that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Xam seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jackson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Xam is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jackson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Xam thows a huge punch but Jackson dodges it nicely.

Jackson is refusing to be controlled, as Xam sits in half guard.

Xam is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jackson is just riding it out for now. Xam eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jackson wants to get back to full guard.
Jackson is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Xam jumps into side control!
Jackson is not content to let Xam control the position.

Xam tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Xam has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Jackson is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Xam's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Xam tries to pass to full mount but Jackson defends it.

Kiya Xam dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Xam throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Jackson sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Xam looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Jackson is fending him off so far but Xam persists. Nope, Jackson circles away and we're back to standing.

Kiya Xam overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jackson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Xam is proving hard to escape from.
Xam can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jackson controls the pace.

Xam throws his legs up looking for a submission but Jackson uses it to pass to side control.
Xam is trying to control Jackson's posture but Jackson avoids it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jackson wants to stand but Xam is controlling his arm.

Jackson is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Xam will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Jackson takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Xam is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Xam on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Xam has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Jackson escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Jackson!

Jackson wants to stand but Xam is controlling his arm.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Jackson is looking to take a break and control but Xam is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Jackson swings around for an armbar but Xam sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Jackson's guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Let's hope that Jackson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Jackson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Xam swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Jackson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Xam's guard.

Jackson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Xam moves into full guard.
Xam has his hands on Jackson's head, controlling the position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Jackson keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Xam's head.

Xam can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jackson controls the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Xam circles away from the clinch attempt.
Kiya Xam is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Xam looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Jackson is fending him off so far but Xam persists. Nope, Jackson circles away and we're back to standing.
Xam blocks a head kick by Jackson.

Jackson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Xam uses from the top position.

Jackson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Xam can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Jay J Jackson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jackson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
