PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Darius Joyner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ajax Bushiri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joyner has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Darius Joyner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ajax Bushiri!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Chris Dean and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bushiri forces Joyner back against the cage and clinches.
Joyner doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Joyner tries to circle away but Bushiri has him pinned against the cage.
Bushiri lands a body shot.
Joyner is breathing heavily.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Bushiri has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Joyner after a bit of a struggle.
Bushiri gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Bushiri gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bushiri advances to half guard.

Bushiri decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Bushiri looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Joyner is fending him off so far but Bushiri persists. Nope, Joyner circles away and we're back to standing.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bushiri closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Joyner's guard.
Bushiri stays in close to Joyner's body and controls the position.

Bushiri drops back looking for a leg! Joyner is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Joyner manages to kick Bushiri off! Bushiri jumps back into Joyner's guard.
Bushiri stands and throws Joyner's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Bushiri decides to take the fight back to the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bushiri closes the distance and clinches.

Bushiri's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Bushiri closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Joyner's guard.
Bushiri forces his way into half guard.
Bushiri trying to pass the guard but Joyner defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bushiri stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bushiri rushes Joyner and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
A right handed body shot lands from Bushiri.
Bushiri lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Joyner or not.
Bushiri stalls.
Bushiri connects with a knee to the head.

Bushiri manages to pull guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bushiri is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Bushiri has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Joyner can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Joyner might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Joyner being controlled here momentarily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ajax Bushiri dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Darius Joyner's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Bushiri lands a nice leg kick that just misses Joyner's sensitive parts.
Bushiri keeps the fight on the outside.

Bushiri clinches.
Bushiri tries to pull guard but Joyner forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Bushiri as Joyner tries to tie him up.
Joyner is pressed up against the cage. Bushiri has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Joyner down to the mat. Joyner avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Bushiri throws a sloppy head kick and Joyner moves out of range easily.
Joyner could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bushiri closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The referee asks Bushiri politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Bushiri prefers to stall for the moment though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bushiri has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Bushiri is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Joyner has escaped the position, nice work there.
Bushiri lands a few punches from side control.
Bushiri remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Joyner is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Bushiri is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
The referee warns Joyner that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Bushiri looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Joyner covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ajax Bushiri!
