Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Alvin Smarks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sergey Sveshnikov!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Valeri Chadov and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smarks tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Smarks is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Sveshnikov's half guard.
Smarks looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sveshnikov with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Sveshnikov is looking for a sweep. Smarks is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Sveshnikov gets back to full guard.
Smarks has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Sveshnikov with a couple of shots from the bottom there - nothing Smarks can't handle though.
Our spies down at at The Bear's Den ($300) inform us that Sveshnikov has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

We've been hearing that Smarks has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Smarks is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smarks avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Smarks scoring with some ground and pound.

Sveshnikov lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Sveshnikov wants to pass the guard but Smarks is keeping the position.

Smarks escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sveshnikov gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Smarks content to stall in guard here.
Smarks trying to control the position from guard on top but Sveshnikov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Smarks tries to stand but Sveshnikov is controlling from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Sveshnikov is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Smarks rolls with it to try and escape but Sveshnikov cranks on the arm and Smarks is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Sergey Sveshnikov!
