Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Leon Idas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rey Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rey Nelson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Leon Idas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rey Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Nelson.
Nelson should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Idas tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Nelson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Nelson is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Idas's shoulder. That is not cool.

Nelson stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Nelson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Idas's guard.
Nelson is standing up over Idas. Idas looks to escape but Nelson dives into side control.
Nelson happy to just control the position for now.

Idas can't do much from the bottom here.
Idas is looking to reverse the position.
Nelson content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Nelson wants to control for a moment but Idas uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Nelson tries to get to full guard but Idas has control of the leg.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Nelson tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rey Nelson dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Idas fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nelson slips a jab and a cross from Idas.
Nelson shoots in but Idas avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Idas misses with the combination.
Idas shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Nelson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Idas won't be happy with that.
Idas tries to bench press Nelson off him but Nelson keeps the position.
Nelson takes a little break here. Idas wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Nelson is staying tight to Idas's torso, preventing him from escaping.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Despite being in the dominant position, Rey Nelson just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Idas misses with a takedown

and Nelson counters with a single leg into guard. Idas didn't expect that.
Nelson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Idas wants to control the position but Nelson says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Nelson is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Nelson stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Idas to get to his feet.
Idas lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Nelson backs up against the cage.
Idas throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Idas tries for a takedown but Nelson circles away easily

so Nelson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Leon Idas. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nelson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rey Nelson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Nelson steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Idas. That one must have hurt.
Idas stalks Nelson and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Nelson's face. Nelson staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Rey Nelson has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Idas scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Nelson has eaten all the pies!
Idas wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nelson keeps working.
Nelson wants to control the action here but instead Idas manages to pass to full mount!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Idas scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Nelson?

Idas controlling his opponent.
Idas lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Nelson hang on?
Idas thowing shots but they're missing.
Idas looking to control but Nelson is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Nelson blocking the ground and pound.
Idas avoids the attempt from Nelson to control.
Idas connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Idas goes for an armbar but Nelson turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Nelson.
Nelson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
