PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Shintaro Nomo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stasius Venom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Venom is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: For Heavy Metal we will die!. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Stasius Venom!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yasuomi Hirokawa.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A lazy left from Nomo finds it's target.
Venom throws a body punch but Nomo moves out of range.
Nomo throwing a counter right hand but Venom manages to avoid it.
Venom slips a jab from Nomo.
Venom misses with an uppercut. Nomo saw that one coming.
Nomo is looking to counter punch.
Nomo takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Venom throws a nice inside leg kick.
A left lands for Nomo.
Venom throws a combination that misses
and Nomo counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Venom pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Venom throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Venom takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Nomo staying out of range there.
Nomo takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Nomo bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Venom's head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Venom checks a leg kick nicely.
Nomo uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Venom.
Nomo throws a hook to the side of Venom's head but Venom sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Nomo uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Venom manages to pull guard.
Venom trying to keep a closed guard but Nomo is proving a slippery customer.
Nomo wants to control from the top but Venom keeps moving.

Venom is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Nomo is aware though and is defending well.

Nomo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Nomo is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Venom is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Venom working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nomo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nomo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Venom controls Nomo momentarily but Nomo frees himself.
Venom has control of Nomo's left arm, preventing Nomo from doing any damage.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Venom has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Nomo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Venom looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Nomo got a little sloppy there for a moment and Venom has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nomo has managed to get both his arms back between Venom's legs - danger averted.
Nomo works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Nomo is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Venom doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Nomo.
Venom tries to get to full guard but Nomo has control of the leg.
Nomo is looking to take a break and control but Venom is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nomo slips a nice elbow through Venom's hands, connecting with Venom's forehead.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Nomo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Venom does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Venom is trying to get back to full guard.
Venom is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Nomo scores with a couple of nice shots.
Nomo lands with a punch from half guard.
Venom wants to get back to full guard.
Venom is not content to let Nomo control the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Nomo throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Nomo is thwarting Venom's attempts to control the position.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Venom moves into the clinch successfully.

Venom escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

It looks like Shintaro Nomo has been cut.
Nomo lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Venom lands an overhand right.
Venom takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Nomo pushes Venom up against the cage in a clinch.

Venom breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Venom misses with a leg kick
enabling Nomo to counter with a crisp jab.
Venom misses with a low kick as Nomo jumps back.
Nomo misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Venom.
A little jabbing left from Venom on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Donk. Nomo catches Venom right on the button with a cross.
Nomo on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Nomo throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Venom on the side of the head.
Nomo cracks Venom with a good jab.

Venom lands a jab to the head.
Venom cracks Nomo with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Nomo rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Venom moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Venom throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Venom throws a poor cross that misses
and Nomo counters with a straight right hand.
Venom misses with a wild body shot.
Decent striking displayed by Nomo there.
Venom wants to clinch up but Nomo keeps it at a distance.
Nice straight punches there by Venom. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Venom.
A big left from Nomo misses.
Venom throws out a loose jab but Nomo uses good head movement to avoid it.
Venom tries a head kick but it misses.
Nomo throwing a counter right hand but Venom manages to avoid it.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Nomo takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Nomo connects with a single shot there.
A low kick from Venom misses

and Nomo decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Venom's guard.
Nomo in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Venom is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Nomo is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Nomo's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Venom is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Venom has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Nomo should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Venom has tightened it up now! Nomo should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Stasius Venom spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
