PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Cathaway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruno Italo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jimmy Cathaway!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bruno Italo!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Seu Braga and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cathaway drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Cathaway controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Cathaway drops back, looking for a kneebar! Italo looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Italo looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Italo!


Italo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Cathaway is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Cathaway tries to bench press Italo off him but Italo keeps the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Italo looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Italo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cathaway, who protects the arm well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cathaway is trying to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cathaway manages to get back to half guard.

Italo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Cathaway wants to control but Italo is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Italo is keen to just control but Cathaway is a slippery customer.

Italo seems to be working for a kimura but Cathaway defends the submission attempt.

Italo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cathaway is just riding it out for now. Italo eventually gives up the hold.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Italo working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Cathaway's thigh. Cathaway counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Cathaway is looking for a triangle but Italo pushes his legs off easily.

Cathaway working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Italo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Italo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Italo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Cathaway uses his free foot to push down on Italo's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Italo.

Cathaway looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Italo tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Italo changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Cathaway ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Italo tries to keep at a distance but Cathaway has taken the fight into the clinch.

Cathaway is pressed up against the cage. Italo has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Cathaway down to the mat. Cathaway avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
The crowd cheers as Cathaway lands an impressive looking overhand right. Italo doesn't seem phased though.

Cathaway moves into the clinch.
Italo drops down looking for an ankle pick but Cathaway pulls his leg out and moves away.
Cathaway is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Italo can do to turn this around?
Cathaway tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Italo manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Cathaway closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
