PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Steve Nash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jules Cantersol (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Steve Nash!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jules Cantersol!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cantersol moves out of range of the strikes.
Nash throws a hook but Cantersol avoids it easily.

Cantersol shoots in and bounces Nash off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Cantersol seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Cantersol trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Cantersol missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cantersol in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Cantersol looking to pass the guard.
Cantersol trying to control but Nash is working from the bottom.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cantersol accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Cantersol postures up.
Nash knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cantersol on the ground.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Cantersol throws a sloppy head kick and Nash moves out of range easily.
Nash stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Cantersol looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Jab by Nash.
Nash throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Nash swinging wilding here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cantersol takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.


Cantersol is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Nash thows a left - swing and a miss!
Jab, jab by Nash - just one landing.
Cantersol is still on wobbly legs! Can Nash finish him?

Cantersol rushes Nash and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Cantersol seems to have recovered his senses.
Cantersol leaning his opponent against the cage.
Cantersol has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Nash avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Cantersol ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Cantersol no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Cantersol looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nash is one step ahead there.
Cantersol is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Nash is controlling him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cantersol lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Nash!
Nash wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Cantersol.
Cantersol sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cantersol throws some wild stikes that Nash manages to avoid easily.
Nash wants to hold on but Cantersol pushes him away.
Nash is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Nash is squirming around, avoiding Cantersol's attempts to control the action.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cantersol thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Nash dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Nash scores with a jab to the head.
Nash throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cantersol.
Cantersol ducks under a wild hook from Nash.
Horrible takedown by Cantersol or perhaps it was just good defense by Nash which made him look bad.
Cantersol walks into a left hand.

Cantersol instigates a clinch.
Cantersol tries to pull guard but Nash holds him up against the cage and eventually Cantersol drops back down to his feet.

Cantersol pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Cantersol looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Nash!
Cantersol looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nash blocking the ground and pound.
Nash really wants to buck Cantersol off and get back to his feet.
Cantersol has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Cantersol jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Nash is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Nash and Cantersol has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Cantersol is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Nash is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Cantersol is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Nash managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Cantersol.
Cantersol in side control lands a decent elbow.
Cantersol scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Nash to see if he's OK.
Nash tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Cantersol working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nash is looking to reverse the position.
Nash is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Cantersol trying to control the position but Nash is working away.
Cantersol tries to advance to mount but can't.
Cantersol scoring with punches from side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Cantersol swings around for an armbar but Nash sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Cantersol's guard.
Cantersol is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Cantersol looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Cantersol is looking for a triangle but Nash pushes his legs off easily.
Nash stays in close to Cantersol's body and controls the position.
Cantersol looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nash is one step ahead there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Steve Nash will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Nash drops Cantersol with a left right combo! Nash follows him down to the ground into side control.


It looks like Jules Cantersol has been cut.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cantersol throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Nash feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Cantersol sprawling to the canvas! Cantersol rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Nash finish him?!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cantersol shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Nash pinned against the cage. Nash gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Nash sends Cantersol crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Nash is motioning to the referee to let Cantersol up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
Nash looks to throw the jab but Cantersol is out of range.
Cantersol blocks a jab.
Nash drops his shoulder and cracks Cantersol with a huge uppercut! Cantersol goes down! Can Nash finish him?

Cantersol wriggles free and stands up.
Cantersol takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nash drops Cantersol with a huge uppercut! Cantersol drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes. Nash is raining down punches and the ref stops the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:09 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Steve Nash!
