PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lyle Chipperson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marty Magee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chipperson comes to the cage accompanied by Chip Chipperson - Tears. Magee has chosen Seven Nation Army as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Lyle Chipperson is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lyle Chipperson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Marty Magee!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Jonathan Paton and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chipperson takes a swing at Magee's ribcage but misses.
Chipperson lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
A low kick from Magee is predictable there
enabling Chipperson to counter with a crisp jab.

Magee is looking for the big counter here.
Magee uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Chipperson.
Magee throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Magee connects with a right hand. Chipperson shakes it off.
Magee fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Chipperson is out of range.
Magee misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Magee manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Chipperson is pushing Magee up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Chipperson lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Magee or not.
Chipperson lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Magee throws a knee to the head but misses.
Chipperson lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Chipperson gets through Magee's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Magee shoots in looking for a takedown but Chipperson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Magee's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Chipperson swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Magee is looking to chop away at Chipperson's legs.
Chipperson is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Magee looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Chipperson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Magee takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Magee throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Chipperson.
Chipperson slaps away a takedown attempt from Magee, before circling back to the center of the mat.
It looked like Chipperson was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Lyle Chipperson will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Magee shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Chipperson sprawls well. Chipperson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Magee gets slowly back to his feet.
It looks like Chipperson has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Chipperson lands a nice shot that snaps Magee's head back.
Chipperson is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Chipperson chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Magee can pounce on him.
A looping hook to the body misses from Chipperson. Magee does a little dance to reset his feet.
Magee throws a right and a left that Chipperson avoids nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Magee tries to close the distance and clinch but Chipperson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Chipperson has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

Magee tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Chipperson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

No joy there for Magee, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Nice straight punches there by Chipperson. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Chipperson.

Magee connects with a good right hand that stumbles Chipperson. Chipperson circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Magee, as that shot connected.

Chipperson catches Magee with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Magee shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Chipperson but Chipperson pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Chipperson throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Magee on the side of the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Lyle Chipperson.
Well Chipperson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
