PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Curtis Guerrero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Eckert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Curtis Guerrero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Eckert!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Alec Ball and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guerrero stuffs the takedown.
Eckert shoots in for a takedown but Guerrero shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Guerrero is looking to counter the offense by Eckert and move into the clinch.

Eckert moves into the clinch.
Eckert is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Guerrero is defending well for now.
Eckert looking for a takedown.
Curtis Guerrero has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Eckert.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Eckert.
Guerrero's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Guerrero turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Guerrero manages to end up in side control.

Eckert gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Eckert escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Guerrero rushes Eckert and presses him up against the cage.
Eckert crunches a lovely knee into Guerrero's ribcage.
Guerrero prevents the takedown attempt.
Eckert creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Guerrero's defenses.

Guerrero breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Eckert drives through with a takedown into Guerrero's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Eckert postures up in Guerrero's guard and throws a big left but Guerrero blocks it.
Guerrero is looking to stand up but Eckert isn't so interested in that idea.
Guerrero is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Guerrero could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Eckert is looking to improve his position.

Guerrero is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Guerrero looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Guerrero is looking to take a break and control but Eckert is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Guerrero escapes and gets back to his feet.
Eckert fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Eckert misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Nice takedown defense from Eckert. No joy for Guerrero on that attempt.

Eckert is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Guerrero's half guard.
Guerrero is refusing to be controlled, as Eckert sits in half guard.
Guerrero wants to get back to his feet.
Guerrero is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Guerrero moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Eckert accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Guerrero is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Eckert stops Guerrero from standing up.
Eckert trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Guerrero is working an open guard so Eckert takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Eckert gets a clinch.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Eckert obliges.

Eckert breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Eckert closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Eckert lands in his opponent's guard.
Eckert must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Guerrero holds on and takes a little breather.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Eckert closes the distance and clinches up with Guerrero, looking for a takedown. Eckert pushes Guerrero against the cage but Guerrero circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Eckert lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
A punch combination from Eckert misses.
Eckert has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Eckert drives through with a takedown into Guerrero's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Eckert is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Guerrero seems keen to control Eckert's posture.
Guerrero wants to stand up but Eckert is controlling him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Guerrero has control of Eckert's left arm, preventing Eckert from doing any damage.

Horrible takedown attempt by Guerrero or perhaps it was just good defense by Eckert, which made it look bad.

Eckert is working for a submission of some sort.
Guerrero is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Eckert's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Eckert's back!

Eckert tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Guerrero stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Eckert closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Guerrero lands a shot to the body.

Eckert pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Eckert has managed to clinch.
Guerrero managing to block the knees to the body from Eckert.

Guerrero has picked Eckert up - he's going for a ride! Guerrero dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Guerrero is taking a breather. Eckert says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Guerrero wants to work for an arm triangle but Eckert is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That was a close second round but I would say that Curtis Guerrero will probably get the nod.

Eckert is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Guerrero doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Eckert.

Chris Eckert comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Eckert has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
