PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Basty Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Alexander (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Marcus Alexander was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Basty Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Marcus Alexander!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Valeri Chadov and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A solid leg kick lands there for Alexander.

Jones fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Alexander, pushing him back against the cage.
Jones is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Alexander is defending well.
Alexander wants to break the clinch but can't.
Alexander misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Alexander is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Alexander tries to circle away but Jones has him pinned against the cage.
Alexander doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Jones is looking to take this one to the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Basty Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Alexander prevents a takedown attempt there.
Alexander can't find room to land a body shot as Jones controls the action.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alexander misses with a body punch.

Jones gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Alexander regains guard.
Jones won't allow Alexander to sweep him here.
Alexander utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jones is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Jones has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Jones is pushing down on Alexander's leg trying to pass to half guard. Alexander is fighting to maintain full guard but Jones has managed to sneak the leg through.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Alexander can do anything to dispel that myth.
Alexander is trying to stand.
Jones throwing shots but Alexander is blocking nicely.
Jones is trying to control. Alexander wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Alexander tries to get to full guard but Jones has control of the leg.
Alexander has hold of Jones's hands but Jones slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Jones seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Alexander does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Jones prevents Alexander from improving his position.
Alexander keeps trying to improve his position.
Alexander wants to control but Jones is keeping busy.
Jones is keen to just control but Alexander is a slippery customer.
Jones is nestled in close to Alexander, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Jones uses his free foot to push down on Alexander's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Alexander.
Alexander wants to control but Jones is having none of it.

Jones takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Alexander seems to have recovered his senses.

Jones lands a series of strikes from the back and Alexander goes limp! The ref jumps in to save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Basty Jones!
An out of breath Basty Jones thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
