Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Switek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Houghtinho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kevin Switek!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alex Houghtinho!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Houghtinho shoots in but Switek avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Houghtinho swats away the attempt to clinch by Switek.
No joy there for Switek, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Switek darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Switek tries to stand and escape but Houghtinho is controlling the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Houghtinho is pressing down on Switek's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Switek is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Houghtinho is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Houghtinho has escaped and now he's on top!
Switek wants to get back to his feet but Houghtinho is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Houghtinho with a flurry of punches that miss.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Houghtinho in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Houghtinho postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Switek working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Houghtinho doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Houghtinho manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Switek is breathing heavily.
Houghtinho distracts Switek with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Switek controls Houghtinho momentarily but Houghtinho frees himself.

Switek utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Houghtinho with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Houghtinho drops back looking for a leg! Switek is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Switek manages to kick Houghtinho off! Houghtinho jumps back into Switek's guard.
Switek doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Houghtinho wants to control from the top but Switek keeps moving.

Houghtinho drops back looking for a leg! Switek is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Switek manages to kick Houghtinho off! Houghtinho jumps back into Switek's guard.
Houghtinho thows a big elbow that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Houghtinho dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Houghtinho slips a jab and a cross from Switek.
Houghtinho has his takedown stuffed
and Switek counters with a stiff right hand.
Switek swinging wilding here.
Switek misses with a double jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Switek rushes Houghtinho and presses him up against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Houghtinho has Switek pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Switek manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Houghtinho tries for a takedown. No joy.
Kevin Switek has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex Houghtinho.
Houghtinho drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Switek breaks from the clinch.
Switek moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Switek throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Switek shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Houghtinho decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Switek's guard.
Houghtinho has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Houghtinho postures up in Switek's guard and throws a big left but Switek blocks it.
Houghtinho missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Houghtinho won't allow Switek to sweep him here.
Houghtinho is looking to work some ground and pound but Switek has wrist control.
Houghtinho thows a big elbow that misses.
Switek keeping moving, preventing Houghtinho from controlling successfully.

Switek is trying to keep Houghtinho in close.
Houghtinho throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Switek works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Switek knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Houghtinho on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Houghtinho fails with an attempt to clinch.
Switek misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Switek with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Houghtinho connects with a good right hand that stumbles Switek. Switek circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Nice cross by Houghtinho.

Houghtinho fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Switek sprawls well initially but Houghtinho persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Switek wants to get back to his feet.
Houghtinho landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Houghtinho showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Houghtinho decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Alex Houghtinho is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Houghtinho controlling from the top position.

Houghtinho throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Switek works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Switek wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Houghtinho is now in half guard.
Switek wants to control but Houghtinho is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Houghtinho is tying to control. Switek wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Kevin Switek has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Switek misses with a combination

and Houghtinho counters with a takedown into side control.
The referee asks Houghtinho politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Houghtinho prefers to stall for the moment though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Switek is trying to get back to his feet.
Houghtinho working the ground and pound.

Alex Houghtinho comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Houghtinho winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
