PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jon Melcher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Kenuah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ken Kenuah struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 156.1lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Ken Kenuah has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 17 - 0, fighting out of London, Jon Melcher!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ken Kenuah!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Columbo Gatti and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kenuah throws a series of punches but Melcher avoids them all with ease.
Melcher throws a big counter combination but Kenuah scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Melcher looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Kenuah kicks off Melcher and gets to his feet.

Melcher bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Kenuah explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Kenuah looking to score a takedown here. Melcher is defending well but Kenuah drives through and ends up in Melcher's guard.

Melcher manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Melcher darts in looking for a takedown but Kenuah gets double underhooks and turns Melcher into the cage.

Melcher shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kenuah is trying to defend but Melcher finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Kenuah makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Melcher seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Melcher shoots in for a takedown but Kenuah shows good takedown defense.
Melcher misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Melcher. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Melcher feints and as Kenuah raises his hands in defense, Melcher changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Melcher is in close to Kenuah's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Melcher working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Kenuah wants to stand and escape but Melcher is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Melcher loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Melcher will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Melcher throws a strike but Kenuah rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Kenuah looking to sit in guard and control but Melcher gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Melcher chips away with some ground and pound.
Melcher really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Melcher with a flurry of punches that miss.
Melcher is working Kenuah over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Melcher in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Melcher content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Melcher postures up and lands a big shot to Kenuah's brow.
Melcher lands a couple of elbows.
Melcher throws a big elbow that misses.
Kenuah looks winded!
Melcher is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Melcher has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kenuah avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Melcher with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Melcher postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Kenuah has momentary wrist control but Melcher slips an elbow through the middle.
Kenuah is looking to stand up but Melcher isn't so interested in that idea.

Melcher lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Melcher working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Kenuah's head.


Kenuah is rocked!
Melcher lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Kenuah is still in real trouble! Can Melcher finish him?
Melcher works over Kenuah with some ground and pound from guard.
Melcher lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Melcher gets to his feet and stands over Kenuah, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Kenuah felt that one! Melcher unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Kenuah from any more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jon Melcher!
Our winner, Jon Melcher, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
Ken Kenuah was interviewed post fight and said 'My job is to catch the other guy before he catches me, and take it out of the judges' hands. Tonight, I didn't do that. Sorry, fans'.
