PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Devil Jho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maximus Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jho comes to the cage accompanied by Into the Abyss. Scott has chosen Wildboy as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 31 - 14 - 1, fighting out of New York, Devil Jho!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 41 - 24 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Maximus Scott!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Yves DeLean and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jho drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Jho wants to get up but he can't break Scott's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Jho throws a big elbow that misses.
Scott wants to stand and escape but Jho is having none of it.
Jho throws an elbow that misses. Scott uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Jho's guard. Nice move by Scott!

Scott has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jho is proving hard to escape from.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jho wants to stand and escape but Scott is having none of it.

Jho walks into a stiff left hand from Scott.
Jho shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Scott eats them both and turns towards Jho to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.


It looks like Maximus Scott has been cut.

Jho closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Scott did well to prevent Jho getting side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jho throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Jho seems to be working for a kimura but Scott defends the submission attempt.
Jho wants to lay and pray for a moment but Scott keeps working.

Jho is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Scott still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Scott has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Scott stands up and beckons Jho to his feet.

Jho closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Scott pushes Jho away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Jho gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Jho decides to stand back up.
Maximus Scott seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jho moves away from the strike by Scott.
A telegraphed right hand from Scott misses the target.
Scott throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Jho on the side of the head.

Jho is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Scott's half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jho tries to pass the half guard into mount. Scott knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That was a close round but I would say that Devil Jho will probably get the nod.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Jho tries for a takedown but Scott sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Jho throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Devil Jho is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Scott swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Jho fails with a takedown attempt.
Jho avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Jho went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Jho stands up over Scott, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jho shoots in for a takedown but Scott shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Devil Jho. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Scott misses with a hook.
Jho went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Scott lands a nice shot that snaps Jho's head back.

Jho will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Scott up against the cage.

Jho feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Jho in particular looking to stall.

Maximus Scott has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jho is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Scott can do to turn this around?
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Jho lands a nice short elbow.

Scott thuds his right hand into Jho's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Scott rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Jho connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

and Jho moves into the clinch.
Scott takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Scott escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A nice combination there by Jho.

And that's the end of the fight!
Devil Jho showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jho, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
