PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Veikko Pilvi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darren Lockyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pilvi comes to the cage accompanied by Faded. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lockyer throws a leg kick but Pilvi checks it.
As Lockyer backs away, Pilvi returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Lockyer has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Lockyer fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Lockyer scores with a jab. Pilvi acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Pilvi pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Lockyer misses with a hook. Pilvi ducked under it nicely.
Lockyer throws a jab but it's blocked by Pilvi.
A slow jab from Lockyer misses its intended target.
Pilvi throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Good leg kick by Pilvi there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Lockyer moves out of range as Pilvi throws a body kick.
Lockyer missing with a left hand there. Pilvi was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Pilvi takes one on the button.

Nice straight punches there by Pilvi. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Pilvi.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pilvi misses with an uppercut. Lockyer saw that one coming.

and Pilvi counters with a three punch combo that has Lockyer backing up. Lockyer nods at Pilvi to acknowledge the strikes.

Lockyer jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Lockyer finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
The fighters circle momentarily. Lockyer darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Lockyer just misses with a punch to the body.
Pilvi rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Lockyer moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Pilvi throws a solid leg kick but Lockyer takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Pilvi.
Lockyer's corner calls for a 1-2. Lockyer obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Pilvi feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Lockyers jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Lockyer lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Pilvi instigates a clinch.

Lockyer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Lockyer throws a leg kick which misses Pilvi's front leg but catches the back leg as Pilvi tries to avoid it.
A jab from Pilvi misses.
Pilvi throws a sloppy head kick
and Lockyer counters with a straight right hand.
Pilvi throws a nice looking combination but Lockyer bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Pilvi looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Lockyer scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Lockyer throws a monster overhand right that drops Pilvi! Lockyer follows up with more strikes from mount and the fight is all over!

After winning the bout, Darren Lockyer thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
