PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Black Zeus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Van Dam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Van Dam is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by One of A Kind by Breaking Point. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rob Van Dam!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zeus misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Zeus avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Both fighters circling a little - Van Dam finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Van Dam scores with a spinning back kick!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Zeus pulls Van Dam into guard.

Zeus is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Zeus will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Zeus is breathing heavily.
Van Dam is looking to stand up but Zeus won't let him.

Zeus has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Van Dam can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Zeus looking for a guillotine here but Van Dam defends easily.

Zeus looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Zeus throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Zeus has Van Dam pulled in close to control his posture.
Zeus lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Van Dam!

Zeus looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Zeus tries to control but Van Dam wriggling away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Zeus controlling the position easily from mount.
Van Dam should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Zeus won't let Van Dam get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Zeus is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Van Dam is surviving well by controlling Zeus's body position as best he can.

Zeus with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Zeus throws some wild stikes that Van Dam manages to avoid easily.

Zeus working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Zeus looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Van Dam avoids a series of strikes thrown by Zeus.
Zeus is landing with some decent strikes but Van Dam is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Zeus is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Van Dam has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Zeus has control of Van Dam's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Van Dam regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Poor strikes thrown by Zeus there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Black Zeus dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Zeus will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Zeus looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Zeus fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Black Zeus. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Zeus shoots in for a takedown but Van Dam shows good takedown defense.
Horrible takedown by Zeus or perhaps it was just good defense by Van Dam which made him look bad.
Zeus shoots in but no luck this time.
Van Dam moves out of range of the leg kick from Zeus.
Left hook, right uppercut from Van Dam.
Zeus tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Van Dam swivels and escapes.

Zeus drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Zeus has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Zeus prevents Van Dam from getting back to his feet.
Zeus trying to move into half guard but instead Van Dam has managed to sweep!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Zeus is looking for a triangle but Van Dam pushes his legs off easily.

Zeus tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Zeus is working hard here to advance position.
Van Dam must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Zeus feints and as Van Dam raises his hands in defense, Zeus changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Zeus accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Zeus slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Zeus tries to advance to mount but can't.

Zeus thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Zeus is working to tighten is grip on Van Dam's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Van Dam has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Zeus is really squeezing tight and eventually Van Dam passes out! Zeus breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Black Zeus!
