PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ruiz Edinhio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tupe Fiso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fiso is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by We Won't Back Down. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ruiz Edinhio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tupe Fiso!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Steve Erwin and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fiso throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Edinhio closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Edinhio lands in his opponent's guard.

Edinhio drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Edinhio jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Edinhio seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fiso trying to keep a closed guard but Edinhio is proving a slippery customer.
Edinhio wants to control from the top but Fiso keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Edinhio's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Edinhio is pushing down on Fiso's leg trying to pass to half guard. Fiso is fighting to maintain full guard but Edinhio has managed to sneak the leg through.
Fiso wants to get back to full guard.
Edinhio perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Edinhio wants to work for an arm triangle but Fiso is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Fiso told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Edinhio is trying to work for a kimura but Fiso is defending well.
Fiso wants to improve his position but Edinhio is controlling well.

Fiso is trying to stand up here but Edinhio is controlling him well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Edinhio is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Fiso won't allow Edinhio to pass to mount.
Edinhio is thwarting Fiso's attempts to control the position.
Fiso is not content to let Edinhio control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fiso is trying to get back to full guard.
Fiso makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Fiso.
Edinhio is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Edinhio stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fiso swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Edinhio looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Fiso takes a swing at Edinhio's ribcage but misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Fiso lands a right hook to the body.
Edinhio looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Edinhio shoots and misses
and Fiso counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Fiso lands a nice shot that snaps Edinhio's head back.
Fiso stuffs the takedown attempt from Edinhio. Edinhio gets slowly back to his feet.
Edinhio fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ruiz Edinhio. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sloppy strikes from Fiso. Those never looked like landing.
Fiso misses with a hook. Edinhio ducked under it nicely.
Edinhio shoots in for a takedown but Fiso shows good takedown defense.
A little jabbing left from Fiso on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Fiso throws the left hand but Edinhio avoids the punch easily.
Fiso misses the shot to the body.
Fiso fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Edinhio manages to avoid it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Edinhio closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Fiso is trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tupe Fiso dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Edinhio changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Fiso tries to avoid it but Edinhio manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Fiso to the ground. Fiso escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A left lands for Fiso.


It looks like Ruiz Edinhio has been cut.
Edinhio fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Fiso tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Edinhio was well out of range. Poor timing from Fiso.
Fiso fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

and Fiso counters with a series of strikes that really hurt Edinhio! The ref looks into his eyes and sees nobody home - he's called the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tupe Fiso!
