The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Boyko.
Richards is trying hard to land a takedown here. Boyko sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Boyko changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Boyko tries to clinch there but Richards circles away.

Richards closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Richards wants to work for an arm triangle but Boyko is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Boyko really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Richards. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Richards takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Richards takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Richards seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Boyko for as long as he can get away with.

Boyko is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Richards pulls his head out easily.
Boyko should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Richards wants to control the pace but Boyko is squirming around nicely.

Richards lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Boyko is bucking up trying to escape but Richards cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Richards loads up with a big shot that hurts Boyko! He's pulled Richards in close but Richards has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Boyko survive? More strikes from Richards and Boyko is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!
