Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Daniel Franklin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie fails with the takedown.
Merudez looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Gracie scores with a takedown into Merudez's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie is pushing down on Merudez's leg trying to pass to half guard. Merudez is fighting to maintain full guard but Gracie has managed to sneak the leg through.

Gracie is looking for a kimura here.
Merudez wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy.
Merudez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Gracie is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Merudez wants to get back to his feet.

Merudez has his hands clasped together around Gracie's back. He's all about the action.

Merudez is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Merudez prevents Gracie from improving position.

Gracie thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Gracie moves into full mount!

Gracie goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Merudez turns into him and now he's in Gracie's guard.

Merudez is sitting in close to Gracie's body. Gracie has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Merudez is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Merudez is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Gracie.
