PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Les Figueroa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Orhen Althius (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Orhen Althius will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Figueroa shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Figueroa stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Figueroa has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Althius gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Figueroa counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Althius thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Althius utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Figueroa won't allow Althius to sweep him here.

Figueroa seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Althius for as long as he can get away with.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Figueroa's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Figueroa is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Althius can do to turn this around?

Althius shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Figueroa but Figueroa pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Althius closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Figueroa has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Althius is on him like a limpet, forcing Figueroa back against the cage.

Figueroa has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Althius defend it? Figueroa steps over the head and cranks it - Althius is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Figueroa!
