Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andy Johnson !
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Steve Montenegro and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson throws a right and a left that Whitfield avoids nicely.
Whitfield tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Johnson manages to circle out of the way.
Whitfield lands with a nice combination. Johnson backs away looking to recover.

Johnson darts in and clinches Whitfield up against the cage.
Whitfield has Johnson pressed against the cage, preventing Johnson from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Johnson wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Whitfield breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Whitfield really is a fat lump.
Johnson lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Johnson gets a double leg takedown into Whitfield's guard.
Whitfield looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Whitfield throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Whitfield is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Johnson looks like he's trying to stand up.

Whitfield has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Whitfield is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Johnson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Whitfield.
Whitfield is taking a breather. Johnson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Johnson takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Johnson has momentary wrist control but Whitfield slips an elbow through the middle.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Johnson enables Whitfield to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Johnson manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Whitfield might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Whitfield shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Johnson is trying to defend but Whitfield finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Ulysses Whitfield overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Whitfield, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
