Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
19 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Mattews!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
10 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Milan Zoranovic!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Sosuke Kotani and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mattews lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
It looks like Milan Zoranovic has been cut.
Mattews missing with a left hand there. Zoranovic was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Matt Mattews seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fighters circling - Mattews throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Mattews scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Zoranovic doesn't seem bothered though.
Mattews takes the fight into the clinch.
Mattews misses with a hook from the clinch.
Mattews working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Mattews escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mattews is looking to chop away at Zoranovic's legs.
Mattews feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Zoranovic sprawling to the canvas! Zoranovic rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Mattews finish him?!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mattews feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Zoranovic wriggles free and stands up.
Zoranovic checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Zoranovic misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Mattews fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Zoranovic checks it well.
Zoranovic now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Mattews tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Mattews lands a big right hand that sends Zoranovic crashing to the mat! Mattews stays standing though and waves Zoranovic back to his feet!
Zoranovic is rocked!
Mattews looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Mattews steps into range and unloads a brutal right left combo! Zoranovic is out on his feet! Mattews sets himself and nearly takes Zoranovic's head off with a straight right, sending him crashing to the mat! Wow, that was nasty... but awesome! Wooo!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Matt Mattews!
Our winner, Matt Mattews, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
In defeat, Milan Zoranovic stepped up to the mic, saying 'Opponent is under forbidden substances!
