PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Damien Sandow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grigory Pechorin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Sandow might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Aint No Grave . The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Damien Sandow!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Grigory Pechorin!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Saam Ante and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sandow blocks a head kick by Pechorin.
Pechorin has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Pechorin stuffs the takedown.

Pechorin moves into the clinch successfully.
Pechorin will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Sandow up against the cage.
Pechorin is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Sandow is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Pechorin to keep the fight standing.

Pechorin is trying to keep Sandow in close.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sandow thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pechorin bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sandow's guard.

Sandow working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Pechorin has passed into half guard!

Pechorin passes to full mount!
Pechorin fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Poor strikes thrown by Pechorin there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Pechorin wants to finish this one by submission but Sandow is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Pechorin.
Pechorin prevents Sandow from getting the reversal.
Pechorin trying to control but Sandow is having none of it.
Sandow slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Sandow looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sandow won't allow Pechorin to pass to mount.
Pechorin is still trying to improve position.
Pechorin wants to control but Sandow is keeping him busy.
Pechorin is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pechorin winds up and cracks Sandow with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Pechorin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Pechorin thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Pechorin is trying to control. Sandow wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Sandow is working on a guillotine. He's managed to get to full guard and he's really squeezing tight! Pechorin is tapping! Great win for Sandow!
