PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rafael Carvalho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marty Magee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Magee has chosen Seven Nation Army as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Magee avoids the body shot from Carvalho.

Carvalho ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Magee fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Carvalho looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Magee shoots for a double leg takedown but Carvalho sprawls well. He's pushed Magee's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Carvalho sizes up Magee with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Carvalho lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Magee throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Carvalho uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Magee has time to react.

Carvalho shoots in looking for a takedown but Magee manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Carvalho's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Oh Carvalho is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Magee closes the distance and pushes Carvalho back into the cage.
Magee has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Carvalho is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Magee catches Carvalho with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Carvalho stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Carvalho wants it to stay on the feet.

Magee tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Carvalho defends well and Magee ends up having to push Carvalho into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Carvalho working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Carvalho swings around for an armbar but Magee sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Carvalho's guard.
Magee would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Carvalho working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Magee doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Magee manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Carvalho scores with the left hand. Magee knows he should have avoided that one.

Magee lands a big uppercut and Carvalho crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Carvalho looks OK. Magee waves Carvalho back to his feet!

As Carvalho backs off Magee throws a huge counter combo but Carvalho manages to avoid it all.

and Magee counters with a nice right hand that sends Carvalho toppling to the canvas! Carvalho scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Magee finish him?!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Carvalho swings for the body but Magee moves out of range.
Some bone on bone action there as Carvalho checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Marty Magee is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
No joy there for Magee, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A little feinted left hand from Carvalho on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Magee feints and then cracks Carvalho's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Carvalho down.

and Magee counters with a crisp one two that drops Carvalho! Magee thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Carvalho to his feet! Carvalho is in big trouble!
Magee dances in with a quick combination. Carvalho is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Magee snaps Carvalho's head back. Carvalho stumbles backwards against the cage. Magee steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Carvalho's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Carvalho just didn't come prepared.

A relieved looking Marty Magee thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
