The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Ben Watson and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Byers closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Basket Case did well to prevent Byers getting side control.
Basket Case makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Basket Case .
Byers postures up.
Byers is in close to Basket Case 's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Basket Case is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Basket Case working for a triangle but Byers defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Byers got a little sloppy there for a moment and Basket Case has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Byers has managed to get both his arms back between Basket Case 's legs - danger averted.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Byers lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Basket Case is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Byers has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Byers postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Basket Case might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Byers haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Basket Case looking to hit a scissor sweep but Byers is one step ahead there.

Byers works over Basket Case with some ground and pound from guard.
Basket Case pushes a forearm under Byers's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Byers is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
