Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gil Jennings (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Peterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as John Peterson enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Gil Jennings!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Peterson!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Chris Saunders and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Peterson scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Jennings prevents Peterson from improving position.
Peterson postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Jennings struggling a bit here.

Peterson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Peterson throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jennings wants to control but Peterson postures up.

Peterson decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Peterson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Jennings is trying to defend but Peterson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jennings is looking to improve his position.
Peterson seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Jennings is positioning himself well to prevent Peterson advancing to mount.
Jennings wants to control but Peterson is keeping busy.
Jennings tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Peterson is looking to stall here but Jennings recovers full guard.
Peterson wants to control from the top but Jennings keeps moving.
Jennings looking for a sweep. Not yet Jennings, not yet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Jennings shoots in for a double leg but Peterson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Peterson gets a takedown into half guard.

Jennings manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Peterson keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Peterson has clasped his hands together around Jennings's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Jennings sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Peterson is pressing down on Jennings's thigh, looking to free his foot. Jennings is holding on for now.

Peterson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
It looks like Peterson is going to stand back up.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Peterson shoots in and gets a takedown into Jennings's guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

A close round but John Peterson will probably get the nod.

Peterson tries to keep at a distance but Jennings has taken the fight into the clinch.
Peterson blocks an uppercut.
Jennings is trying to pull guard but Peterson turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Jennings misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Peterson lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!


It looks like Gil Jennings has been cut.

Peterson breaks from the clinch.

Jennings gets caught napping as Peterson dives in and scores a takedown. Jennings manages to retain guard.
Peterson wants to pass the guard but Jennings is keeping the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Peterson prevents Jennings from getting back to his feet.
Peterson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Peterson wants to stand but Jennings has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Jennings is working an open guard so Peterson takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Peterson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jennings looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Jennings lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Jennings is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Peterson wants to hit a switch here but Jennings passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Peterson there!

Jennings jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Peterson manages to avoid the submission attempt.

A close second round but John Peterson will probably get the nod - 10:9.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Peterson tries to clinch but Jennings is having none of it.
Peterson scores with a one two! Jennings had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Peterson closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Jennings did well to prevent Peterson getting side control.

Peterson throws an elbow that misses. Jennings uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Peterson's guard. Nice move by Jennings!

Jennings lands a couple of decent looking shots.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Jennings cracks Peterson with a solid left hand.
Peterson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jennings's guard.

Peterson wants to stand and escape but instead Jennings has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

John Peterson has got the better of the ground game so far.
Peterson wants to hit a switch here but Jennings passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Peterson there!
Peterson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Jennings working the ground and pound effectively.
Jennings looking to finish Peterson with some ground and pound. This is bad for Peterson!

Peterson bucks Jennings off and manages to get back to his feet!
Peterson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
A lazy body kick from Peterson

and Jennings counters with a nice double leg into side control. Peterson won't be happy with that.
Peterson is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Peterson tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Jennings lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Peterson is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Jennings gets his way!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jennings is punishing Peterson with strikes - can he finish him?!
Peterson tries to roll but Jennings sticks to his back.

Jennings is looking for the choke from the back position but Peterson is controlling his hands well.
Gil Jennings has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
John Peterson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Jennings is hanging on to Peterson's back as he tries to escape.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gil Jennings showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Peterson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
