The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Ben Hemmingworth and Skip Squint.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith darts in looking for a takedown but Lopez gets double underhooks and turns Smith into the cage.
It looked like Lopez was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Lopez rushes Smith and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Smith pulls guard effortlessly.

Smith is looking for a triangle here but Lopez uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Lopez thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Smith sneaks back into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lopez is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Smith defends it well.

Lopez is nestled in close to Smith, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Smith throws a strike but Lopez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Lopez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Smith throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Lopez was covering up waiting for the punch and Smith finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Smith drops back, looking for a kneebar! Lopez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Lopez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Lopez!
