PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Arnulfo King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Slim Jim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Arnulfo King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Slim Jim !
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Ben Hemmingworth and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

King closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - King lands in his opponent's guard.
Jim preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
King controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
King throwing strikes from guard but Jim blocks nicely.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells King's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Jim really doesn't want to stay on the ground with King. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
King wants to stand but Jim has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jim is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. King is aware though and is defending well.

King stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Jim tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but King paws at him with a jab and circles away.
King tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Jim manages to circle out of the way.
Jim misses with a double jab.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King throws a poor cross that misses
and Jim counters with a stiff right hand.

King closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jim to the mat! Jim manages to get full guard.
King would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Jim is working an open guard so King takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Jim drives through with a takedown into King's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
King trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
King has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Jim wants to stand but King is controlling his posture from full guard.

King keeping moving, preventing Jim from controlling successfully.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Jim looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
King misses with a takedown attempt
and Jim counters with a nice body shot.

Jim shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. King manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
King throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
King wants to improve his position but instead Jim has moved into half guard.

Jim is looking for a kimura but King is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jim to get the leverage.
King really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
King flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
King regains full guard. Nicely done.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

King will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
King looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
King throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
King has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
King keeping moving, preventing Jim from controlling successfully.
King doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
A head kick misses from Jim .
It looked like King was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

King fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jim , pushing him back against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Jim pulls King into guard.

Jim has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but King can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

King decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Jim changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. King looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Jim advances to full mount.
Jim prevents King from getting the reversal.
Jim avoids the attempt from King to control.
King throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Slim Jim dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Jim shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. King is trying to defend but Jim finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

King is pressing down on Jim 's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Jim must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jim trying to control the position from guard on top but King is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now King is on top in guard.


King gets to his feet. Jim looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

King with a lazy takedown attempt
and Jim counters with a two punch combo.
Jim lands a brutal head kick. King looks out on his feet and Jim throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:13 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Kick and Punches). Slim Jim !
