PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Sands (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dancing Dave (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sands kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Irish Soldier Song ... Free & Green. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bobby Sands!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Dancing Dave!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Edson Gomes and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sands looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dave is fending him off so far but Sands persists. Nope, Dave circles away and we're back to standing.
Sands fails with the takedown
and Dave counters with a nice body kick.
Dave clobbers Sands with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Dave leaves Sands with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bobby Sands. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nice takedown defense from Dave. No joy for Sands on that attempt.
It seemed like Dave was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Sands manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Dave on his heels. He'll look to pass Dave's guard now, I'm sure.

Dave has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Sands has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Dave wants to get back to his feet.

Sands thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Dave tries to improve position but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sands swings around for an armbar but Dave sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Sands's guard.

Dave got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sands has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dave has managed to get both his arms back between Sands's legs - danger averted.
Dave must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Sands is looking for a triangle but Dave pushes his legs off easily.

Sands is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Dave is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Sands escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Dave gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Sands looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Sands is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Dave is aware though and is defending well.

Sands working for a triangle but Dave defends it easily.
Dave won't allow Sands to sweep him here.

Sands looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Dave has picked Sands up and slammed him! Sands can't keep hold of the triangle and Dave manages to pass to side control!
Dave is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Sands's shoulder. That is not cool.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bobby Sands will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Sands has taken the fight to the clinch.
Sands tries to score a body lock takedown but Dave shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Sands drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Dave connects with a nasty looking knee right to Sands's face.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Dave creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Sands is looking to take this one to the mat.
Sands drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Dave breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sands misses with a takedown
and Dave counters with a nice leg kick.

Sands shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Dave's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dave utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Dave wants to get back to his feet but Sands is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Sands postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Dave is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Sands, into his guard.

Dave really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sands. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Sands has a closed guard, preventing Dave from standing up.

Sands working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dave doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Sands is tightening it up a little... Dave has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Dave reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Dave taps out! Nice BJJ there by Sands!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Bobby Sands!
During a confident post fight interview, Bobby Sands thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
Dancing Dave was interviewed post fight and said 'You big muppet!!'.
