PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Eddie Lainey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Winkle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that John Winkle was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Eddie Lainey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, John Winkle!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, James Ackerman and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lainey closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Lainey's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Winkle walks into a jab.

Winkle drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Lainey explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Winkle is trying hard to land a takedown here. Lainey sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Winkle shoots for a takedown but Lainey saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Lainey lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Eddie Lainey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Winkle moves forwards but Lainey connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Winkle moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Lainey lands a glancing blow to the side of Winkle's head.
Winkle shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Lainey smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Lainey doesn't manage to clinch there - Winkle circles away.
Lainey stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Lainey lands a right hook to the body.

Winkle gets the takedown into side control.
Lainey is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Winkle wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lainey keeps working.

Winkle tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Winkle has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Winkle passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Lainey!
Lainey is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Winkle is working for a guillotine from mount but Lainey frees his head quite easily.

Winkle moves into full mount! Lainey won't be happy about that!
You get the feeling that Lainey really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Winkle is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Lainey to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Lainey shrugs it off.

Winkle can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Lainey is looking to escape.
You get the feeling that Lainey really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Lainey really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That was a close round but I would say that Eddie Lainey will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Lainey cracks Winkle with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Lainey fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Winkle looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Lainey is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Winkle is controlling him well.

Winkle is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lainey is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Lainey is trying to get back to his feet.

Winkle tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Winkle is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Lainey looks calm but he's in trouble here. Winkle gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Lainey is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Winkle lets go of the hold and Lainey can pop his arm back in it's socket.
