PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dennis Wise (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mark Hunter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dennis Wise!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wise throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Wise throws a series of punches but Hunter avoids them all with ease.
Wise throws a right and a left that both miss.

Wise takes the fight into the clinch.
The is referee keeping an eye on Wise - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Wise manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hunter would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Wise is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Hunter works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Wise is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Hunter pulls his head out easily.
Wise trying to control but Hunter postures up.
Hunter thows a huge punch but Wise dodges it nicely.

Wise kicks off Hunter and gets to his feet.
Hunter blocks a head kick by Wise.
A right-left combo lands from Hunter.

Wise lands a head kick that stumbles Hunter and the fighters go to the mat.


Hunter is rocked!


It looks like Mark Hunter has been cut.
Wise must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Hunter is working an open guard so Wise takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Oh Hunter is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Hunter misses with a series of wild punches.
Hunter seems to have got his legs back now.

Wise forces Hunter back against the cage and clinches.

Wise breaks the clinch.

Hunter has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Wise is working away from the top position though.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Wise shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Hunter really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Hunter wants to control but Wise is having none of it.
Wise can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hunter is looking to escape.

Wise gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Hunter misses with a takedown

and Wise counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Wise.
Hunter is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wise avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Wise preventing the sweep.
Wise is pushing down on Hunter's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hunter is fighting to maintain full guard but Wise has managed to sneak the leg through.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Hunter makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Wise darts in and clinches Hunter up against the cage.
Wise lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Wise throws a sloppy head kick and Hunter moves out of range easily.

Wise closes the distance and clinches.

Wise breaks from the clinch.
Wise misses with a combination
and Hunter cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Wise takes the fight into the clinch.

Wise has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Hunter is trying to keep an underhook but Wise manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Wise trying to control from Hunter's half guard. Hunter has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

Wise stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Wise gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Hunter counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Hunter tries to clinch up.
Wise throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Wise is breathing heavily.

Wise misses with a double jab.
No joy there for Wise, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Dennis Wise seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wise takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Wise pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hunter closes the distance but Wise moves to the side

and Wise decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hunter's guard.
Wise tries to free his leg and advance position but Hunter is retaining full guard.
Wise wants to get up but he can't break Hunter's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Hunter could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Hunter wriggles free and stands up.
Hunter fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Wise feints and then cracks Hunter's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Hunter down.

Wise moves into range and clinches up with Hunter.

Wise is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Hunter can't fight it off and eventually Wise manages to take the fight to the floor. Hunter looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Wise counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hunter won't be happy with that.

Wise wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hunter keeps working.
Wise is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Hunter's shoulder. That is not cool.
Hunter is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Wise asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Hunter looking for a sweep but Wise has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Hunter tries to lock up and control but Wise gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Wise looking to control but Hunter is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Wise has control of Hunter's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Hunter regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Wise is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Hunter has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Hunter!
Wise controls Hunter momentarily but Hunter frees himself.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Wise wants to get back to his feet but Hunter is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Wise looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Hunter puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Wise wants to get back to full guard.
Hunter is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Wise is trying to get back to full guard.
Hunter is looking to take a break and control but Wise is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Dennis Wise comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Wise has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
