PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Loren Guy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Michael (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Michael has chosen When We Ride as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Loren Guy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, David Michael!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Micheangelo Fripello and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Michael shoots in and gets a takedown into Guy's guard.

Guy is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Michael presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Guy lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Michael breaks the clinch.

Michael shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Guy napping and manages to drive through into side control!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Guy prevents Michael from improving position.
Michael is working Guy over with some ground and pound from side control.

Michael working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Guy tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Guy regains half guard.
Guy pushes Michael off looking to stand but Michael dives back in and keeps control.
Guy wants to get back to full guard.
Guy slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Michael stands up over Guy, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Michael won't allow Guy to sweep him here.
Guy thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Michael lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Michael distracts Guy with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Guy is looking for a triangle here but Michael uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Michael tries for a kimura but Guy is defending well.
Guy tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Michael wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Guy is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Michael's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Guy is breathing heavily.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Michael lands a nice short elbow.
Michael passes to side control.
Guy tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Michael presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Michael lands a nice shot to the head.
Michael lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Guy hang on?


Guy is rocked!
Guy is desperately trying to improve his position but Michael has a good base and remains in mount.
Oh Guy is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Michael sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Michael landing strikes, looking to finish!

Michael is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Guy to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Guy shrugs it off.
Michael is landing with some decent strikes but Guy is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Michael working for a guillotine from mount but Guy is in no mood to give up.
Guy really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Michael stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Guy gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Michael to score an easy takedown into full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Michael wanted to stand there but Guy had control of the position.
Guy will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Michael trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Guy escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Michael gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Michael passes Guy's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Michael seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Guy pushes Michael off looking to stand but Michael dives back in and keeps control.
Nice strikes from Michael there.

Michael is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Guy has managed to free his arm - good work.
Michael lands with a punch from half guard.

Michael seems to be working for a kimura but Guy defends the submission attempt.

Michael looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Michael tries to pass to full mount but Guy defends it.
Guy seems to have got his legs back now.
Guy gets back to full guard.
Guy controls Michael momentarily but Michael frees himself.
Guy wants to sweep here but Michael controlling him for the moment.
Guy really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Michael gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Michael throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
The fight stays on the outside here - Michael looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Michael goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Michael gets a double leg takedown into Guy's guard.

Guy scrambles and gets back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
David Michael seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Michael closes the distance looking to clinch
and Guy counters with a one-two to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Michael dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Guy stalks Michael and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Michael's face. Michael staggers backwards, shaken.
Guy circles away from the clinch attempt.
Michael misses with a leg kick

and Guy counters by moving into the clinch.
Michael tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Guy has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Michael is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Guy is stalling here.

Michael breaks from the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Michael tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Michael looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Guy!

Michael tries for a kimura but Guy is defending well.
Michael is breathing heavily.
Guy sneaks back into half guard.

Michael is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Guy sees it coming and defends easily.
Guy is pressing down on Michael's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Michael has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Michael stands and steps away. Guy gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Michael shoots in for a takedown but Guy shows good takedown defense.
As Michael looks to move away, Guy throws a big counter combo but Michael just gets out of the way.
Michael has his takedown stuffed

and Guy counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Guy.

Guy pulls Michael into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Michael drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Michael jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Guy looking for a triangle here. Michael is fighting it but it looks tight! Guy pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Michael is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Loren Guy!
