PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tomas Mercado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yung Malarkey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tomas Mercado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yung Malarkey!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malarkey misses with a few strikes there.

Mercado gets a clinch.
Mercado drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Mercado breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Malarkey shoots in and bounces Mercado off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Malarkey trying to control but Mercado is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Malarkey drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Mercado dives on top into guard.

Mercado lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Malarkey uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Mercado gets a takedown into half guard.
Mercado really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Mercado will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Malarkey wants to control but Mercado is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Malarkey tries to kick Mercado off but Mercado keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Malarkey tries to get to full guard but Mercado has control of the leg.
Mercado sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Malarkey defending well though.
Mercado trying to control the action but Malarkey is working from the bottom.
Malarkey is trying to maintain the position but Mercado is very close to passing his half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Mercado is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Malarkey sees it coming and defends easily.
Mercado lands with a punch from half guard.

Malarkey is staying active underneath Mercado, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Mercado wants to stand up but Malarkey is controlling the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Malarkey lands a nice hook to Mercado's body. Mercado takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Malarkey closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mercado to the mat! Mercado manages to get full guard.
Malarkey stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mercado swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Malarkey postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mercado is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Malarkey, into his guard.


Malarkey looking for subs off his back but Mercado has passed one foot through into half guard.

Malarkey is defending against the submission attempts here by Mercado.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tomas Mercado will probably get the nod.
That's time! Mercado's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Mercado moves into the clinch.

Malarkey has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Mercado regains guard immediately.
Mercado keeping moving, preventing Malarkey from controlling successfully.

Malarkey stands and steps away. Mercado gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Malarkey goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Malarkey gets the takedown into side control.

Mercado manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Malarkey is defending against the submission attempts here by Mercado.
Mercado drops an elbow to the side of Malarkey's head.
Malarkey pushes Mercado off but Mercado dives into side control.
Mercado scores with a couple of short elbows.
Mercado lands a decent elbow from side control.
Malarkey tries to bench press Mercado off him but Mercado keeps the position.

Mercado thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Mercado is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Malarkey sees it coming and defends easily.
Tomas Mercado overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Mercado is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Mercado passes into side control, despite Malarkey's attempt to control the position.

Mercado decides to stand up, so the ref orders Malarkey to his feet.

Malarkey takes the fight into the clinch.

Malarkey has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Mercado regains guard immediately.

Mercado is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Malarkey defends well.

Malarkey trying to control the position from guard on top but Mercado is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mercado tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Mercado is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Mercado seems to be working for a kimura but Malarkey defends the submission attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mercado thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Malarkey's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Tomas Mercado will probably get the nod.

Malarkey is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Mercado is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Malarkey has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Malarkey!

Malarkey must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Mercado wants to sweep here but Malarkey controlling him for the moment.
Mercado wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Mercado bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Malarkey's guard.

Malarkey is looking to sweep but instead, Mercado has passed into half guard.

Mercado is looking for a kimura here.
Mercado seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Mercado wants to stand up but Malarkey is controlling the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Mercado decides to stand and escape the position.
Malarkey swats away the attempt to clinch by Mercado.

You can see the frustration on Mercado's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Tomas Mercado showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mercado, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
