Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pan Kovalskii!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Trenchard!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Trenchard tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Kovalskii counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Kovalskii looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Kovalskii is working for a kimura but Trenchard is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kovalskii is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Trenchard looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Trenchard trying to hold on to Kovalskii's head to control him but Kovalskii postures up.

Kovalskii seems to be looking for submissions.

Trenchard looking for submissions off his back.

Trenchard is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kovalskii pulls his head out easily.
Kovalskii prevents Trenchard from standing back up.
Trenchard wants to improve his position but Kovalskii is controlling well.

Trenchard actively working from the bottom here.

Trenchard looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kovalskii seems to be working for a kimura but Trenchard defends the submission attempt.
Trenchard throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Trenchard is defending against the submission attempts here by Kovalskii.
Trenchard wants to get back to his feet.

Trenchard makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Trenchard shoots in and drives through. Kovalskii sprawls well.
Kovalskii feinted with a counter takedown.

Trenchard dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Kovalskii. That did some damage!
Trenchard doesn't manage to clinch there - Kovalskii circles away.
Kovalskii attempts a counter takedown but Trenchard avoids it well and moves away.

so Kovalskii counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Kovalskii stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Trenchard swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kovalskii stops Trenchard from standing up.

Kovalskii is posturing up here but Trenchard has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Kovalskii tries to roll out but it's too tight and Kovalskii has to tap! Slick submission there by Trenchard!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). James Trenchard!
A very excited looking James Trenchard rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
