PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ross Kidd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Perrone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chris Perrone will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ross Kidd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chris Perrone!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Paul Gruel and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Perrone gets tackled into the cage by Kidd. Kidd maintains the clinch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Kidd pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Perrone throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Kidd tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Perrone is in Kidd's guard.

Kidd manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Perrone manages to get himself to full guard.

Kidd wants to control from the top but Perrone keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Perrone is trying to keep Kidd in close.

Perrone is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Kidd is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Perrone's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Perrone's back!

Kidd really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Perrone trying to control the position but Kidd manages to sink in the hooks.

Perrone defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Kidd's arms.
Kidd lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.

Perrone rolls, trying to escape but Kidd keeps control of the position.

Kidd slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Kidd will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Kidd has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Perrone.

Perrone looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Perrone is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Kidd is staying active.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ross Kidd dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Perrone closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kidd did well to prevent Perrone getting side control.

Perrone seems to be working for a kimura but Kidd defends the submission attempt.
Kidd manages to get to full guard.
Perrone wants to control from the top but Kidd keeps moving.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kidd is on top in guard.

Kidd postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Kidd stands up over Perrone, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Ross Kidd overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kidd wants to get up but he can't break Perrone's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Kidd is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Perrone can do to turn this around?
Perrone controls Kidd momentarily but Kidd frees himself.

Perrone is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kidd is aware though and is defending well.

Kidd drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kidd jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Kidd moves into the clinch.

Kidd breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Perrone closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Perrone lands in his opponent's guard.
Kidd has his hands on Perrone's head, controlling the position.
Kidd is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kidd is pulling down on Perrone's head to control his posture.
Kidd wants to sweep but no luck.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ross Kidd will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Perrone fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kidd to the ground. Perrone is now in Kidd's guard.
Kidd is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kidd has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Perrone cracks Kidd with a solid left hand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kidd has Perrone pulled in close to control his posture.
Kidd has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Perrone wants to pass the guard but Kidd is keeping the position.

Perrone is fighting to break Kidd's control of his arms but Kidd is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Perrone shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kidd napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Perrone decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Perrone closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Kidd wants to get back to full guard.
Perrone thows a huge punch but Kidd dodges it nicely.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kidd is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Chris Perrone has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ross Kidd is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Perrone is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kidd is just riding it out for now. Perrone eventually gives up the hold.

And that's the end of the fight!

I think Kidd has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
