Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joshua Weiss!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Derek Muunhaus!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Hirohito Nitta and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Weiss throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Muunhaus's waist but Muunhaus gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Weiss off to one side.
Muunhaus looks for a takedown but Weiss sprawls well.
Weiss tries to clinch but Muunhaus moves out of range.

Weiss throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Weiss looking to throw knees to the head but Muunhaus is blocking nicely.

Muunhaus is working for takedown but Weiss is calmly controlling the position for now.
Joshua Weiss has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Derek Muunhaus.
Weiss lands with a left to the head.
Muunhaus drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Weiss gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Weiss with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Muunhaus is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Weiss is keeping busy.

Weiss works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Muunhaus working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Weiss doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Weiss manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Weiss wants to control from the top but Muunhaus keeps moving.

Muunhaus had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Weiss is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Muunhaus Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Weiss's back instead.
Weiss turns into Muunhaus and is now in his guard.
Muunhaus keeping moving, preventing Weiss from controlling successfully.
Muunhaus wants to sweep but no luck.

Weiss is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Weiss is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Weiss tries to clinch but Muunhaus moves out of range.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Weiss has closed the distance and engaged Muunhaus in a clinch.

Weiss has picked Muunhaus up - he's going for a ride! Weiss dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Weiss looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Muunhaus with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Weiss lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Weiss content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Weiss postures up.
Weiss trying to control the position from guard on top but Muunhaus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Weiss distracts Muunhaus with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Weiss postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Weiss won't allow Muunhaus to sweep him here.
Weiss connects with a couple of short punches.

Weiss pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Muunhaus is keeping the position for now.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Weiss is looking to clinch but Muunhaus is avoiding it.
Weiss tries to clinch there but Muunhaus circles away.

Weiss wants to clinch up but Muunhaus keeps it at a distance.
Weiss doesn't manage to clinch there - Muunhaus circles away.

Muunhaus gets a takedown into half guard.
Weiss is trying to control but can't.
Muunhaus seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Weiss does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Weiss is in trouble now - Muunhaus has advanced to mount!

Muunhaus has control of Weiss's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Weiss regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Muunhaus is working for a guillotine from mount but Weiss frees his head quite easily.
Weiss is trying to escape the mount but Muunhaus keeps good control and instead manages to take Weiss's back.
Muunhaus is landing with strikes from the back.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Muunhaus has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Weiss has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Weiss is in bad spot here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Muunhaus working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Weiss is doing well to defend. Muunhaus seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Weiss is forced to tap and this one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Derek Muunhaus!
