The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bates throws a body punch but Watanabe moves out of range.
Bates scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Watanabe drives through with a takedown into guard.
Watanabe connects with a couple of short punches.
Watanabe postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Bates pushes Watanabe off and gets back to his feet.
Bates throws a quick inside leg kick.
Watanabe takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Watanabe decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Bates is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Arvins Bootcamp, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Bates flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Watanabe slips a nice elbow through Bates's hands, connecting with Bates's forehead.

Watanabe scores with a big shot! Bates's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Bates! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!
