PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between New Jack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that New Jack has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily New Jack seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, New Jack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 16 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Lewis!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Columbo Gatti and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jack dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Lewis dives in and grabs Jack's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jack pushes down on Lewis's head and hops out.
Jack fires out a quick counter leg kick but Lewis just manages to avoid it.

Jack dives in and scores a takedown into Lewis's guard.

Lewis has his foot on Jack's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jack works his way back into a safe position though.
Lewis controls Jack momentarily but Jack frees himself.
Jack won't allow Lewis to get back to his feet.

Lewis has momentary wrist control but Jack slips an elbow through the middle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jack wants to get up but he can't break Lewis's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Jack seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Jack tries to free his leg and advance position but Lewis is retaining full guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lewis tries to clinch but Jack moves out of range.
Jack attempts a counter takedown but Lewis avoids it well and moves away.
Jack scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.


It looks like James Lewis has been cut.

Jack swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
New Jack has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Lewis.
Jack dives in and grabs Lewis's left leg, looking for a takedown. Lewis pushes down on Jack's head and hops out.

Jack fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Jack shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lewis has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jack is working away from the top position though.
Jack slows the pace down in half guard.

Lewis works his way to full guard. Good work.

Lewis working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jack doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jack manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Jack is fighting to break Lewis's control of his arms but Lewis is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jack's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Jack gets a takedown into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Jack seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Lewis for as long as he can get away with.

Jack throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Lewis doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Jack moves into the clinch.
Lewis tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jack smiles and moves away.
Jack connects with a crisp jab.

Jack has Lewis up against the cage in a clinch.
Jack is stalling here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lewis is trying to push Jack away but Jack has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Jack escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jack shoots for a takedown but Lewis saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Lewis tries to clinch there but Jack circles away.
Lewis drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Jack shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Lewis eats them both and turns towards Jack to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

and Lewis counters with a left and a right that stings Jack.

Jack forces Lewis back against the cage and clinches.
Jack looking to throw knees to the head but Lewis is blocking nicely.
Lewis is defending well against a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for New Jack. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Lewis jumps guard but Jack stands there with Lewis around his waist. Lewis gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Lewis wants to get back to striking at distance but Jack won't allow it.

Lewis fails to land the takedown.

Jack tries to counter with a takedown but Lewis is quick to defend against it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Lewis is looking to reverse the position.
New Jack overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jack takes a little break here. Lewis wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Jack creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Lewis sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Lewis gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Lewis tries to lock up and control but Jack gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jack tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Jack throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Lewis because Jack loaded up on that one.
Jack controlling the pace for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jack has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Jack's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Lewis leaves Jack with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Lewis drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Jack defends it well.

Lewis wants to control from the top but Jack keeps moving.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Lewis working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Jack has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Lewis has passed into side control.
Jack tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lewis wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Lewis tries to move into full mount but can't pass Jack's legs.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jack tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Lewis easily slips into full mount!
Jack holds on to Lewis around his waist, trying desperately to prevent any attacks.
Lewis sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Jack wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Lewis unloads with some shots from mount but Jack bucks and avoids them well.

Lewis scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Lewis is looking to stand but Jack has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
Lewis trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Lewis avoids the attempt from Jack to control.
Lewis misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Jack looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
I really don't envy Jack right now.
Jack is working hard here to advance position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lewis working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

James Lewis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
New Jack is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

James Lewis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jack has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
