PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Brandon Simmons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Cooler Than Me by Mike Posner kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brandon Simmons!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Peter Johnson!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Joseph Jones and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson throws a sloppy head kick and Simmons moves out of range easily.
Simmons tries to counter by clinching up but Johnson breaks away and moves out of range.
Johnson checks the leg kick.
Simmons dives in for a single leg takedown but Johnson sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Simmons fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Johnson, pushing him back against the cage.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Simmons.

Simmons successfully pulls guard.
Simmons is looking to stand up but Johnson isn't so interested in that idea.

Simmons avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnson stands up over Simmons, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Simmons is working an open guard so Johnson takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Simmons darts in and clinches Johnson up against the cage.

Simmons's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Peter Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Johnson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Johnson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Simmons to the mat! Simmons manages to get full guard.

Simmons is trying hard to land a takedown here. Johnson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
No joy there for Simmons, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Simmons darts in looking for a takedown but Johnson gets double underhooks and turns Simmons into the cage.

Johnson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Simmons.
Johnson leaves Simmons with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Johnson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Simmons moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Johnson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Johnson is trying to control the action in half guard but Simmons is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Johnson decides to stand up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Johnson gets the takedown into side control.
Johnson cracks Simmons with a big elbow.
Simmons knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Johnson on the ground.
Simmons wants to control but Johnson postures up.

Simmons tries to bench press Johnson off him but Johnson keeps the position.
Simmons takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
You can see the frustration on Simmons's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Johnson lands some shots froms side control.
Johnson in side control lands a decent elbow.

Johnson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Simmons to his feet.

Johnson drives through and clinches with Simmons against the cage.

Simmons tries to land a knee to the head but Johnson blocks with his arms.
Johnson is trying to force a seperation but Simmons has the dominant position.
Simmons tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Johnson just stands there and leans against the cage.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Johnson wants to clinch up but Simmons keeps it at a distance.
Johnson misses with a jab, cross combination.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Simmons is defended easily by Johnson.
Simmons doesn't manage to clinch there - Johnson circles away.
Simmons shoots in but no luck this time.
Johnson lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Simmons is pushing Johnson up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Johnson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Johnson is trying to break free.

Simmons tries a body shot but Johnson blocks it.
Johnson stops a takedown attempt from Simmons.
Simmons content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Simmons is trying to pull guard but Johnson has him pressed against the cage.
Simmons is trying to drag Johnson to the mat but Johnson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Johnson.

Simmons manages to break the clinch.
Johnson looks to land a right hand but Simmons moved out of range.
Johnson throws a front kick aimed at Simmons's knee but Simmons avoids it well.

Simmons shoots in and gets a takedown into Johnson's guard.

Johnson pushes Simmons off and scrambles back to his feet.
Simmons shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Johnson pinned against the cage. Johnson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Johnson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

And that's the end of the fight!
Peter Johnson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Johnson winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
