PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gabriel Arones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simone Milanesi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Arones comes to the cage accompanied by Lonely is the night. Simone Milanesi will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gabriel Arones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Simone Milanesi!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Hugh Johnson and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Arones avoids the head kick by Milanesi.

Milanesi shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Arones's guard.

Arones has his foot on Milanesi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Milanesi works his way back into a safe position though.

Milanesi is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Arones looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Milanesi passes into side control.
Milanesi wants to stand but Arones has his arm trapped.
You can see the frustration on Arones's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Arones is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Milanesi is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Arones's shoulder. That is not cool.
Arones tries to bench press Milanesi off him but Milanesi keeps the position.
Milanesi wants to stand but Arones is controlling his arm.
Arones wants to control but Milanesi postures up.
Milanesi in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Arones is looking for a sweep.
Arones sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Milanesi controlling the action here.

Arones looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Milanesi pushes past his half guard into mount!

Arones is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Milanesi controlling his opponent.
Arones wants to hold on but Milanesi pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Arones tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Arones is working hard here to advance position.

Arones manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Arones tries to roll over but Milanesi keeps him under control.
Arones is looking to get back to full guard here but Milanesi has managed to pass to side control instead.
Milanesi is looking to take a break and control but Arones is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Arones is letting Milanesi control him for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Arones can't get the takedown.
Milanesi lands with a short shot to the head.
Arones jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Milanesi walks away with a smile on his face. Arones gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Milanesi moves into the clinch.
Arones is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Milanesi pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Milanesi's coach down at RIO Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Milanesi's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gabriel Arones. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Milanesi works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Arones tries to score a body lock takedown but Milanesi shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Arones has Milanesi pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Milanesi manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
I was talking to Arones's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Arones tries to pull guard but Milanesi forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Arones tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Milanesi tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Arones is trying to pull guard but Milanesi has him pressed against the cage.
Milanesi stops a takedown attempt from Arones.
Arones jumps guard but Milanesi stands there with Arones around his waist. Arones gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Milanesi throws a punch but it's blocked by Arones.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Milanesi.


It looks like Gabriel Arones has been cut.
Milanesi stops a takedown attempt from Arones.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
A right handed body shot lands from Milanesi.
Milanesi lands with a short head shot on the inside.

Arones pulls guard successfully.

Arones looking for a guillotine here but Milanesi defends easily.

Arones has an active guard here but Milanesi has managed to pass into half guard.
It looks like Milanesi is going to stand back up.
Milanesi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Arones regains full guard. Nicely done.
Milanesi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Arones is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Milanesi rolls with it to try and escape but Arones cranks on the arm and Milanesi is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

During a confident post fight interview, Gabriel Arones thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
