PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jean Labosky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gene Sarazen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 15 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jean Labosky!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gene Sarazen!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Ren Mimura and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sarazen pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sarazen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Labosky tries to score with a low kick but Sarazen moves his leg out of the way.
Sarazen throws out a counter right but Labosky avoids it with no problem.
Labosky lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Sarazen takes the fight into the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Labosky's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Labosky's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Sarazen throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Labosky blocking some punches.
Sarazen misses with the head strike.
Labosky tries to score a body lock takedown but Sarazen shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Sarazen misses with a short punch on the inside.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Labosky is trying to break the clinch but Sarazen is controlling him.
Labosky is trying to break free.

Labosky breaks the clinch.
Labosky moves in looking to clinch but Sarazen pushes him off.
Labosky throws a leg kick which misses Sarazen's front leg but catches the back leg as Sarazen tries to avoid it.
Labosky uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Sarazen.

Labosky fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Sarazen, pushing him back against the cage.
Sarazen pushes Labosky back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Labosky can't get the takedown.
Labosky has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sarazen is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jean Labosky. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Labosky tries to circle away but Sarazen has him pinned against the cage.
Sarazen pushes Labosky back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Labosky is looking to break free of the clinch but Sarazen has double underhooks.

Sarazen keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Labosky's efforts to push away.
Sarazen has Labosky pressed against the cage, preventing Labosky from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Labosky wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Sarazen lands a left hand that snaps the head of Labosky backwards.
Labosky tries to break the clinch but Sarazen is controlling the position.
Labosky jumps guard but Sarazen stands there with Labosky around his waist. Labosky gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Sarazen has a couple of punches blocked by Labosky.
Labosky is trying to pull guard but Sarazen has him pressed against the cage.
Sarazen lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Labosky or not.
Labosky is trying to break free.
Sarazen scores with a shoulder strike.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sarazen blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Sarazen lands an uppercut.
Labosky pushes off an throws an elbow but Sarazen leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Sarazen working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Sarazen gets through Labosky's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Labosky blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Sarazen misses with some punches.
Sarazen scores with a hook to the body.
Labosky working hard to break the clinch.
Sarazen gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Labosky.
Sarazen throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Laboskys head.

Sarazen lands with a short shot to the head.
Sarazen swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Labosky drags the fight down to the ground.
Labosky wants to sweep here but Sarazen controlling him for the moment.
Sarazen forces his way into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sarazen trying to pass the guard but Labosky defending well.
Labosky tries to get to full guard but Sarazen has control of the leg.
Sarazen content to control rather than advance.
Labosky is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Labosky is trying to stand.

Sarazen is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Labosky has managed to free his arm - good work.
Labosky wants to control but Sarazen is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Labosky is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sarazen wants to pass to mount but Labosky is defending the position.
Labosky is pressing down on Sarazen's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Sarazen pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Labosky is keeping the position for now.
Sarazen passes Labosky's left leg - he's now in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gene Sarazen dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Labosky goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Labosky has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Labosky there as he acknowledges the shot.
Labosky throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Labosky misses with a jab to the body
letting Sarazen counter with a right hand.

Sarazen has managed to clinch.

Labosky escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A low kick from Labosky misses
enabling Sarazen to counter with a crisp jab.
Labosky misses with a body shot.
Labosky lands a nice leg kick that just misses Sarazen's sensitive parts.
Sarazen misses with a head kick.
We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Sarazen in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.
Labosky takes a head kick and keeps coming.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Labosky looks to score with a jab to the body but Sarazen is just out of range.

Sarazen throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Labosky misses with a few strikes there.
Sarazen looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
Labosky doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Labosky throws a sloppy head kick
and Sarazen counters with a head kick.
Labosky darts in trying to clinch
and Sarazen cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Labosky pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Labosky misses with an attempted mid kick.
Labosky takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Labosky throws a solid leg kick but Sarazen takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Labosky.
Sarazen swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Labosky.


Labosky is rocked!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sarazen misses with a two punch combination.
Sarazen fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Labosky on the side of the head.
Oh Labosky is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Jean Labosky is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sarazen fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Sarazen looks for a left high kick but can't connect. Sarazen backs up to catch a breather... no he lunges forward with a huge flying knee that smacks Labosky's temple! It sends Labosky violently to the canvas! The crowd goes nuts as Sarazen celebrates and the doctors try to help Labosky!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:14 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Flying Knee). Gene Sarazen!
Gene Sarazen seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
