PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Unz Unz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mel Gordon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gordon has chosen S.O.B. - Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Unz Unz has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Edson Gomes and Matheus Silva.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gordon moves into the clinch.
Gordon throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Unz wants to take the fight to the mat but Gordon manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Gordon lands a damaging elbow.

It looks like Unz Unz has been cut.

Unz is trying to trip Gordon. He has hold of a leg but Gordon is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Unz persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Gordon working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Unz doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Unz manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Unz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gordon has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Unz has managed to get both his arms back between Gordon's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Unz drops back looking for a leg! Gordon is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gordon manages to kick Unz off! Unz jumps back into Gordon's guard.
We've been hearing that Unz has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Gordon is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Unz steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Gordon. That one must have hurt.

A close round but Mel Gordon will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

No luck for Unz with that takedown attempt.
Unz has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Gordon throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Unz keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Unz bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Gordon tries to bench press Unz off him but Unz keeps the position.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gordon manages to work his way to half guard, despite Unz's best efforts.

Unz Unz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Gordon makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Unz shoots in looking for a takedown. Gordon tries to sprawl out of it but Unz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gordon manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Gordon throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Gordon sneaks out the side door and pushes Unz away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Gordon has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Unz uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Gordon.

Gordon goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
A nice inside leg kick there by Gordon. That's going to slow Unz down.
Unz dodges the punch combination from Gordon.
Unz darts in looking for a takedown but Gordon gets double underhooks and turns Unz into the cage.
Gordon wants to counter with a clinch but Unz pushes him away.

Gordon digs a right hand underneath Unz's ribcage. Unz let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Gordon creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Unz's defenses.
Unz tries to pull guard but Gordon holds him up against the cage and eventually Unz drops back down to his feet.
