PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Justin Carpe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Norris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Justin Carpe has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Justin Carpe seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Justin Carpe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jake Norris!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Sosuke Kotani and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Norris misses with a takedown attempt

and Carpe holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Carpe is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Norris gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Norris pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Carpe lands a hook to the side of the head.

Norris wants the takedown. Carpe is fighting it off but Norris persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Carpe's guard against the cage.
Norris has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Carpe is proving hard to escape from.
Carpe might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Norris postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Norris works a leg free and moves into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Norris is working for a submission of some sort.
Carpe won't allow Norris to pass to mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Norris seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Carpe does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Carpe wants to get back to his feet.
Norris is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Norris seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Norris is looking to take a break and control but Carpe is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Carpe wants to improve his position but Norris is controlling well.
Carpe knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Norris on the ground.

Carpe makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Carpe throws a combination that misses

and Norris counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Carpe!
Norris controlling the position from side mount.
Carpe is looking to reverse the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Norris postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Norris wants to stand but Carpe has his arm trapped.
Carpe is not content to let Norris control the position.
Norris in side control, throwing shots but Carpe defends.
Norris wants to lay and pray for a moment but Carpe keeps working.
Carpe is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Carpe trying to remain calm as Norris controls from the top position.
Norris wants to stand but Carpe has his arm trapped.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Carpe avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Carpe is looking to score with low kicks.
Carpe closes the distance and clinches up with Norris, looking for a takedown. Carpe pushes Norris against the cage but Norris circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Carpe throws a sloppy head kick

and Norris counters with a nice double leg into side control. Carpe won't be happy with that.
Carpe seems a little lost for a moment, as Norris dominates the positioning.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Norris tries to advance to mount but Carpe denies him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Norris dominated that round.
That's time! Carpe's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Norris darts in looking for a takedown but Carpe gets double underhooks and turns Norris into the cage.
Norris blocks a head kick by Carpe.
Norris is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
A good leg kick by Carpe.
Norris goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Carpe stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Carpe wants it to stay on the feet.
Carpe scores with a nice strike.
Norris stuffs the takedown attempt from Carpe. Carpe gets slowly back to his feet.

Carpe dives in and scores a takedown into Norris's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carpe wanted to stand there but Norris had control of the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Norris trying to strike off his back.
Norris trying to keep a closed guard but Carpe is proving a slippery customer.
Carpe distracts Norris with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carpe throws a strike but Norris rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Norris missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Carpe uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Justin Carpe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Carpe manages to break the clinch.
Carpe throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Norris.
Norris throws a jab but it's blocked by Carpe.
Carpe fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Carpe looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Norris gets the takedown into side control.
Carpe tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Carpe is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Norris.
Carpe tries to escape the position.

Norris is working the back position looking for the choke. Oh, he's slid into an armbar! Beautiful transition and Carpe taps out! Fantastic Jiu Jitsu from Norris.
