PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between David Campbell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edgar Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Campbell comes into the arena with Forever blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Campbell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Edgar Alves!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Cecil Peabody and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Campbell moves away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Campbell looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Campbell fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Campbell shoots in and drives through. Alves sprawls well.
Campbell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Campbell shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Alves is trying to defend but Campbell finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Campbell is trying to work for a kimura but Alves is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alves is concentrating on defense, preventing Campbell from advancing position.
The fighters are battling for position here. Alves manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Alves is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Campbell has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Alves is proving hard to escape from.

Campbell connects with a couple of short punches.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Alves is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Alves bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Campbell's guard.

Alves stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Campbell swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Alves content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Alves controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Campbell is trying to keep Alves in close.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Campbell is trying to maintain the position but Alves is very close to passing his half guard.
Campbell is looking for a sweep. Alves is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Alves connects with a nice short shot to Campbell's temple.
Alves is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Alves has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Campbell gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Alves pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Alves manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Campbell on his heels. He'll look to pass Campbell's guard now, I'm sure.
Alves lands a couple of elbows.
Alves sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Campbell's guard.
Alves prevents Campbell from improving his position.
Alves lands strikes from half guard.
Alves content to control rather than advance.

Alves seems to be looking for submissions.

Alves seems to be working for a kimura but Campbell defends the submission attempt.

Alves is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Alves is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Campbell is looking for a sweep.
Campbell throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.

Alves goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Campbell has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Alves but great work by Campbell.

Campbell is looking to take a break and control but Alves is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Campbell content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Campbell wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Alves uses the opportunity to regain full guard.

Edgar Alves showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Alves is refusing to be controlled, as Campbell sits in half guard.

Campbell would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Campbell wants to control from the top but Alves keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Campbell tries to close the distance and clinch up but Alves swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Alves now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Campbell shoots in and drives through. Alves sprawls well.
Edgar Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alves stuffs the takedown attempt from Campbell. Campbell gets slowly back to his feet.

Campbell working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Alves doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Alves manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Campbell has his foot on Alves's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Alves works his way back into a safe position though.

Campbell will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Alves is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Campbell's shoulder. That is not cool.

Edgar Alves comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Alves has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
