PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Scott Wilson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mitsuki Matsumoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Scott Wilson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mitsuki Matsumoto!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matsumoto's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Matsumoto duly obliges.
Wilson throws a half hearted mid kick.
Wilson waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Matsumoto.
Matsumoto does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Wilson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Matsumoto fails with a takedown attempt.
Matsumoto lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Wilson circles away quickly and effectively.
Wilson misses with a head kick.

Matsumoto fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Wilson sprawls well initially but Matsumoto persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Wilson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Matsumoto is working away from the top position though.

Wilson makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Wilson tries to land a front kick but Matsumoto steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Wilson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Wilson scores with a push kick.
Wilson tries to close the distance and clinch but Matsumoto swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Matsumoto tries a low kick but Wilson avoids it.

and Matsumoto counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Matsumoto stops Wilson from standing up.
Matsumoto won't allow Wilson to sweep him here.
Matsumoto would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Matsumoto controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Matsumoto tries to free his leg and advance position but Wilson is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Matsumoto stands up and waves to Wilson to follow him.
Wilson wants to clinch.

and Wilson makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Wilson is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Matsumoto pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Wilson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Matsumoto is working for takedown but Wilson is calmly controlling the position for now.
Scott Wilson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mitsuki Matsumoto.
Matsumoto tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Wilson just stands there and leans against the cage.
Wilson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Matsumoto smiles and moves away.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Matsumoto has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Wilson is trying to keep an underhook but Matsumoto manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Matsumoto really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wilson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Matsumoto seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Wilson wants to control but Matsumoto is keeping busy.
Matsumoto is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Matsumoto stops Wilson from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Wilson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Wilson is pushing Matsumoto up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Matsumoto is pressed up against the cage. Wilson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Matsumoto down to the mat. Matsumoto avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Matsumoto stands up and beckons Wilson to join him on the feet.

Matsumoto shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Wilson but Wilson pushes him off and we're back to square one.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Mitsuki Matsumoto showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Matsumoto jumps guard and drags Wilson to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Wilson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Matsumoto swats him away and circles back towards the center.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Wilson rushes Matsumoto and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Wilson misses with a hook to the ribs.

Matsumoto gets control of Wilson's arms and successfully pulls guard. Matsumoto will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The fighters are battling for position here. Wilson manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Wilson wants to control the position but Matsumoto says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Wilson is trying to control but can't.
Wilson is looking to improve his position.

I would just about give that final round to Mitsuki Matsumoto.
I've got Matsumoto winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
